Brazil surrenders to Luis Suárez, who at 36 years of age is surprising in the final stretch of a Brazilian Championship that is within reach of Gremio, whom he has resurrected with goals. He already has 26 in 49 games played this season.

The Uruguayan striker does not stop collecting praise after scoring a hat-trick in twenty minutes against the leader, Botafogo, who is falling apart as the days go by and already has Palmeiras and Gremio itself with the same points (59 ) at the top of the classification.

In the first he cut the defender in the small area and shot with his left foot at the far post; The second was a mid-height shot taking advantage of a lateral cross; and the third was signed after basting a wall that left him alone in front of the goalkeeper.

With five days left in the League, the Porto Alegre team entrusts itself to the nose of a striker in eternal youth who will close his adventure in Brazil in December to probably reunite with his friend Lionel Messi in the United States.

Neymar, shocked with Suárez

But before saying goodbye, Suárez wants to fulfill his promise and give Gremio, which last year was in the second division, a title that it has not won since 1996. He has no shortage of admirers.

"Joga muito," said Neymar on his social networks, who had recently undergone surgery on the cruciate ligament in his knee, after the Uruguayan's performance.

Some columnists from the Brazilian sports press are also amazed by Luisito.

"This film deserves an ending worthy of an Oscar. The title of the Brazilian Championship led by Luis Suárez at the age of 36 appears as the perfect outcome for a dream script," said João Victor Teixeira, from the "Ge" portal.

"What Suárez does at Gremio is so great that sometimes it is difficult to believe (…) He is one of the best forwards in the recent history of football parading through Brazilian stadiums," he concluded in his particular ode.

The numbers prove him right. Between the League, the Brazilian Cup, the Gaúcha Cup Winners' Cup, and the Gaúcho Championship, he has accumulated 26 goals, at an average of one goal every two games (0.48), and 16 assists, according to the BeSoccer platform database.

In the League alone, he has scored 14 in 28 games and is already three behind the top scorer, Paulinho, of Atlético Mineiro. Furthermore, he plays and makes people play, as he appears as number one in assists, with 10.

He is also the player who has caused the most cards (16) and the one who has made the most successful dribbles in the danger zone (18). All this in the midst of recurring knee problems that have forced him to take special care throughout the campaign.

The hunger for titles is intact.

Defenestrated by Barcelona, with which he won the treble (League, Copa del Rey, and Champions League) in 2015 with Messi and Neymar, Suárez also showed that he continues to be a guaranteed striker at Atlético de Madrid, and on his return to the Uruguayan Nacional.

With the rojiblancos he won the League title (2021) and with the club where he trained, the Clausura Tournament in Uruguay (2022).

With Gremio, he won the Championship and the Gaúcha Cup Winners' Cup earlier this year. The League title would be the perfect finishing touch for an indestructible forward.

Tournament Disputed

Palmeiras, who assumed the lead; Botafogo, which was in charge for 31 days; Grêmio, which rebounded in the final stretch, and Bragantino, the big surprise of the tournament, maintain a close due to the dispute in the Brazilian soccer league.

Botafogo, which assumed the lead from the third day and was twelve points ahead, tied this Sunday, 2-2, on its visit to Bragantino and on the thirty-fourth day gave up the first position to Palmeiras, which defends the title of 2022.
