“This is Colombia, my people. The one that never gives up. This is the story of the thread that unites us. This is soccer.” In this way, Maluma introduces us to that small and intimate world of professional soccer players, more specifically that of Colombians. And it is that “Mi selección Colombia” is not only aimed at fans of that country, but also soccer fans in general.
The urban music singer, recognized for being one of the biggest fans of the coffee team, lends his voice in this documentary series that premiered on January 28 on Amazon Prime Video. During its 6 episodes of approximately 40 minutes, we will witness what the members of the Colombian national team experience in the dressing rooms of the Copa América 2021 and the World Cup qualifiers.
The series was produced in conjunction with Miracol Media and AYA Sport, as well as the participation of the Colombian Football Federation, who made it possible, together with Amazon Prime Video, for it to be enjoyed in more than 240 countries. How not to be moved by the personal stories of the players on this journey?

“”Mi selección Colombia”, a great family in detail
Documentaries have the peculiarity of reaching the soul more easily and crudely than movies. And if we add to that the fact that sports like soccer are capable of generating different emotions, the final result is a production destined for success. This is how Amazon Prime wanted to prepare it, which also set its sights on one of the most soccer-loving countries in Latin America and which comes from having outstanding participations in the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
“Mi selección Colombia” presents us with unpublished material of everything that The coffee team lived while it was concentrated in Brazil for the last Copa América, as well as the transition process they had to go through when the Portuguese Carlos Queiroz left the position of coach so that the Colombian Reinaldo Rueda later took over. A whole roller coaster of mixed feelings.
This path is marked by testimonies not only from current soccer players, but also from icons and flagship athletes of the Colombian team of the past. At this point, the ever-present motivational phrases and war cries stand out before and after the games, with figures such as David Ospina or Radamel Falcao at the helm, all of this without neglecting the memories and balances of Faustino Asprilla and Hernán Darío Gómez, luxury guests in this documentary series.
But as often happens in life and in soccer, not everything is rosy. Just as there are highs, there are also lows, and that is what the Colombia team has experienced on this journey. We will see a historical review of the team’s old games, as well as the toughest moments they had to face, such as the 6-2 defeat against Ecuador in Quito for the Qualifiers or the injuries suffered by Radamel Falcao García, Duván Zapata and James Rodríguez in key moments of the pre-world cup.
In short, one of the biggest attractions to see “Mi selección Colombia” is based on its people, on the fans who feel love for their country, their team and their players. This production reflects the tenacity that Colombians have to overcome adversity, also showing us a human and intimate look at the idols of national soccer of today and tomorrow.
¿With possibilities of a second season?
Documentary series have become an attraction for the different streaming platforms. Although Amazon Prime Video has not yet said anything officially, there could be a certain possibility that we will see a second season with another 6 episodes or even more. And there is still material to show!
“Mi selección Colombia” premiered on the platform on January 28, the same date that the team led by Reinaldo Rueda faced Peru for matchday 15 of the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers. Therefore, it would not be unreasonable to imagine that the production team continues to work hard to bring us many more emotions.
The road to Qatar for Colombia does not have a clear and defined panorama, but it will undoubtedly be full of intensity. The defeats against Peru and Argentina condemned the team to seventh position, four points from the playoffs and with Bolivia and Venezuela as the next rivals. Will we see a possible second season of “Mi selección Colombia” celebrating the qualification to the World Cup?
