The 10 soccer players who won Champions and Libertadores Cups

When it comes to soccer, the Champions League is known as the most important and competitive tournament at club level in Europe , while the long-awaited Copa Libertadores is its equivalent in the South American region since both competitions bring together the best of each continent. However, throughout history, only 10 soccer players know what these two trophies weigh, by winning the two competitions, but in addition to being few, all those who have achieved this privilege are South Americans, and even more characteristic only Brazilians and Argentines. Lets see who they are:

Rafinha

The most recent to achieve it and of the few to win the Champions League first and then the Copa Libertadores is Rafinha. The Brazilian winger was part of the overwhelming Bayern Munich team in the 2012/2013 season, where he won the Champions League after winning te Final against Borussia Dortmund 2 for 1. In 2019, he would take the Copa Libertadores in the agonizing comeback from Flamengo to River Plate in the first single-match final of the cup, here he would also win 2-1.

Danilo

The current Juventus player won the 2011 Libertadores with Santos from Brazil , after beating Peñarol from Uruguay 2-1 in the second leg, after the first match had ended with a 0-0 draw. Later, he would not win one, but two Champions (2015/2016 and 2016/2017) thanks to his transfer to Real Madrid , although Danilo would not be there for the third  Real's Champions League due to his transfer to Manchester City.

Ronaldinho

The mythical Brazilian player has Champions and Libertadores among his varied repertoire of titles. "Dinho" is the only other player to win first in Europe and then in South America, since in 2006 he would win the Champions League with FC Barcelona, by winning 2-1 against Arsenal. The Libertadores would see it in 2013 with Atlético Mineiro winning on penalties after a 2-2 draw on the aggregate scoreboard.

Walter Samuel

The Argentine defender would meet the Libertadores early in his career, after winning it in 2000 with Boca Juniors in a game that reached penalties 0-0 in the return leg after a 2-2 in the first leg. The Champions would arrive in the powerful Inter Milan, champion of the triplet (Champions, League and Italian Cup) in 2010.

Dida

The only goalkeeper on the list, the Brazilian defended Cruzeiro's goal in the 1996/1997 Libertadores, in that final against Sporting Cristal from Peru where Dida did not receive any goals and they would win with an aggregate score 1-0 . With AC Milan he won the Champions League twice, first in 2003 against Juventus in a penalty shootout where Dida saved three penalties, and then in 2007 he won again beating Liverpool 2-1 .

Cafu

The legendary Brazilian winger would be the only one on the list to win two Libertadores. Cafu conquered the Libertadores consecutively in 1992 and 1993, both with Sao Paulo, the first on penalties against Newell's Old Boy and the second against the Universidad de Chile in an aggregate result of 5-3. Later, Cafu lifted the Champions League in 2007 together with Milan together eith Dida .

Roque Junior

This Brazilian center-back was part of Palmeiras when in 1999 they reached the final against Deportivo Cali and decided on penalties after a 2-2 draw on the aggregate scoreboard. In 2003 he would obtain the Champions League with the same Milan of Dida .

Juan Pablo Sorín

It is the most particular case on the list, and that is that the Argentine side won the Champions and Libertadores simultaneously, since in 1995 he played some group stage matches with Juventus in the Champions League , but the following year (in the middle of the regular season) he would be transferred to the River Plate, where he would win the Copa Libertadores. That same Juventus would end up winning the Champions League where Sorin participated, for this reason both trophies count for the Argentinean.
