Lima: Art galleries you should know

Bruno Gallery

Located in the renowned neighborhood of Miraflores, Bruno Gallery is known for pushing and promoting young artists. It is run by the artist Jaime Higa Oshiro, a Peruvian-Japanese interested in Peruvian popular culture, according to the website of the Peruvian-Japanese Association. His style is Contemporary and has a strong influence of Pop art, and the artists that make up the exhibit of the gallery are often along similar lines.

Revolver

This gallery was created in 2008 by artist Giancarlo Scaglia with the purpose of supporting contemporary art of Peru. According to their website, it looks to support the artist in his or her individuality, in whichever genre or media they work on. Revolver has expanded internationally and is now also in a space in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is one of the places responsible for promoting the strongest voices of contemporary Peruvian art, and making many artists known globally.

La Polaca

Unlike Bruno Gallery and Revolver, La Polaca is not a traditional gallery. In their official Facebook page, they describe themselves as a platform for all types of artistic expression. It looks to promote emerging artistic projects, and position themselves as part of the “B side” of Lima’s art scene. For a novel proposal and a place where you can find everything, from paintings to clothes to books, La Polaca is where it’s at.

Galería del Paseo

Founded in Punta del Este, Uruguay, with a later opening in Lima, this gallery looks to promote artistic creations by Latin Americans. Located in Miraflores, it is one of the most beautiful spots of the city, constantly hosting exhibitions by contemporary artists from Uruguay, Peru, and the rest of the continent. From photography to painting, this gallery focuses on more traditional media, but it still looks for artists who are not afraid to bend, or even break, the rules.

Lima Modern

This is a gallery where people will find products from designers, artists, editors, and the most prestigious international creatives. You can only visit if you set up an appointment previously, but Lima Modern promises the most innovative art, architecture, and design products in the market.

ICPNA

This gallery is a collection from the Peruvian North American Cultural Institute (ICPNA is the Spanish acronym). From installations, to sculptures and paintings, to performing arts, it gathers cultural expressions from Peru and North America. In the website, the entity is described as a leader in the cultural market, and it looks to fund the creation of different artistic products. There are multiple galleries you can visit, all over the city, in districts like Miraflores, Lima Center, San Miguel, and La Molina.

Like any capital city, Lima is full of culture and art. These are only a few examples of where you can find Peruvian and international art of all genres.
