Peru will point to Qatar 2022 with a more experienced team

The Inca team said goodbye to Russia 2018 with a dignified performance, with a group that will be key to the next qualifiers

Peru will point to Qatar 2022 with a more experienced team

The Selection of Peru played in Russia 2018 a new World Cup in its history. 36 years had to pass for the Incas to be again in the maximum appointment of soccer. However, the feeling after its performance is not the best because the Peruvian team was dismissed very soon (in group stage) despite having exhibited a colorful football, which even their own rivals stood out.

Such is the case of the coach of the Denmark national team, Åge Hareide, who told the Danish agency Ritzau: "When I studied the friendly matches of Peru before the World Cup I saw that we could hurt it in some things. But, then, they played with enormous energy, and they have very good players. Peru is perhaps the team that has played the best in the group ".

For his part, Paul Pogba, player of the France national team said, in statements collected by Diario As, that "Peru is a united, strong team that seeks to give a good treatment to the ball." All those good comments are a great incentive for the Peruvians, who will seek in the next qualifiers a new classification to the World Cup, which in 2022 will be held in Qatar.

From the present list of 23 players who play in Russia 2018, players such as Christian Cueva, Edison Flores, André Carrillo, goalkeeper Pedro Gallese, Miguel Trauco, Renato Tapia and Andy Polo, who have less than 20 players, can be rescued for the following process. In case of a possible step to Qatar 2022, they would be between 28 and 34 years, an optimum age to contest a contest of this size.

The current list, as reviewed on the official website of FIFA, would discard the names, at least by age, of Paolo Guerrera (34 years), Jefferson Farfán (33), and Alberto Rodríguez (32).

What will happen to Gareca?

Now, we will have to see what decision the Peruvian Football Federation takes on Ricardo Gareca. Despite the success in the current process, his future is not yet defined and they need to sit down to negotiate both sides. In this regard 'El Tigre', in statements collected by El Comercio de Peru indicated that "this is not the time to talk about the issue. I thank the people and the Peruvian fans for the support we have always had".

The Argentine strategist has taken a process in which the youth players take place to have a solid process that allows to classify the World Cups more immediately.

Therefore, Gareca took to the last Centennial America Cup, which took place two years ago in the United States, soccer players, mostly youngsters. For example, he called men to play like: Luis Abram, Alejandro Hohberg, Adán Balbín, Armando Alfageme, Beto da Silva and Óscar Vílchez. Of these, none convinced Gareca to be called to Russia 2018, but remain on the radar of the Argentine, thinking of Qatar 2022.

These players, surely, will be in the eliminatory process towards the World Cup of Qatar 2022: Anderson Santamaría, Miguel Araujo, Miguel Trauco, Christian Ramos, Nilson Loyola, Christian Cueva, Renato Tapia, Andy Polo, Wilder Cartagena, Pedro Aquino, André Carrillo and Edison Flores.
