Tips for choosing your ideal makeup foundation

The foundation is what prepares your face and can define whether the makeup will be a beautiful work of art or a complete disaster. Using the right tone and type is paramount. That foundation that is completely camouflaged and that gives the illusion of uniformity in the skin is the ideal. Also, it is important for it to last the number of hours desired without fading or cracking and, of course, to go along with your neck's color.

First of all, we must remember that it is not recommended to use foundation every day because it does not allow the necessary respite to your skin and you should always prepare your face with some moisturizer before applying it. Bearing this in mind, we will tell you some things to consider in order to choose the ideal foundation:

1. Know the subtone of your skin

This is the key to choosing the perfect foundation color. Subtone comprises the series of pigments that make the foundation color warmer or colder basis usually it is yellow, pink, olive green or reddish, and it makes it possible to merge with your skin color.

In order to know which is the subtone of your skin, you can place a white sheet just above your collarbone and see which of the above-mentioned colors resembles more.

In the case of Hispanics, they mostly have a warm subtone, which is between yellow and olive green. People with dark complexions usually have reddish subtones and people with very white skin tend to have pink undertones. In this sense, we can define what is the ideal color taking into account that foundations also have subtones, which must match that of our skin.

2. Know the type of skin

Facial care needs depend on whether the skin is mixed, oily or dry and, at the time of makeup, it occurs in the same way.

If your skin is oily, it is important to look for foundations that help you keep dry and that are completely oil-free. Otherwise, the makeup will not last long enough, it will melt on your face and you will have to retouch constantly.

In case of dry skin, forget drying foundations and look for those with a more moist or oily touch, so that the skin does not look dry and thus avoid the makeup to crack.

In mixed skin, the range of possibilities is wider. However, in the nose, chin and forehead areas, you should be a little more careful because they tend to be a bit oily.

3. The foundation is tested directly on the neck

You should NOT try the foundation on the back of the hand, or on the face. The idea of the foundation is to unify the colors of our face and fuse it with our neck to make it look as natural as possible, so that body part should be taken as reference when testing the color of the foundation. In this way, you avoid looking with a mask on.

The ideal color is one that, when tested, merges with the natural color of the neck. So place a droplet there and wait a few seconds to define if it makes the necessary match.

4. Do not rule out the possibility of mixing

If you can not find the ideal color, you can buy a similar one and mix it with another foundation until you achieve the desired color. Also, with the textures, if you want to make a less heavy foundation, you can mix it with some other more liquid one.
