On November 19, the Swedish Prosecutor withdrew the charges for rape against Julian Assange, creator of Wikileaks. Sweden had accused Assange of rape since 2010, but Assange always denied the charges.
The investigation was reopened last May after two years of no progress due to the condition of asylum that Assange had, according to the BBC. The process was revived after April Assange left the Ecuadorian embassy in the United Kingdom. The Deputy Director of the Prosecutor's Office, Eva-Marie Persson, stated that "my assessment is that all the investigation barometers have been taken … but the evidence is not strong enough to present a formal accusation," in a conference press.

In an official statement, the official said: "I would like to emphasize that the affected party has presented a credible and reliable version of the facts. Their statements have been consistent, extensive and detailed; however, my general assessment is that the probative situation it has weakened so much that there is no longer any reason to continue the investigation. " The woman who accused Assange of having raped her is currently studying with her lawyer if she will file an appeal.
The decision, according to El País, facilitates the extradition of Assange to the United States. This process would take place once the British decision on the actions of Assange is known to have leaked confidential information. This same medium ensures that the extradition trial would begin by February. According to Reuters, Washington accuses him of 18 crimes. He is currently in prison in London, serving a 50-week sentence in Belmarsh, after the Ecuadorian government, headed by Lenin Moreno, decided to withdraw the political asylum granted him by Rafael Correa.
