The systemic violence and racism of the American police have reached an intolerable point for the Americans. The case of George Floyd has made this problem visible worldwide, so that in addition to athletes who regularly speak out against this type of violence, athletes from all over the world have joined them. Let's see some of them.
1. Micheal Jordan
The legendary Chicago Bulls player spoke on Monday on his Instagram, saying that "he is on the side of those who report racism and violence against people of color in his country" and that "they have had enough". The athlete also clarified that: "We must listen to each other, show compassion and empathy and never turn our back on senseless brutality."
2. Lebron James
The star Lakers player has also spoken out against American police brutality on multiple occasions, such as when the death of Eric Garner took place, another African American hanged until his death by the police in 2014.
This time, the athlete shared some images supporting the protests, as well as a photo of him wearing the shirt of Eric Garner's last words "I can't breathe", which became emblematic for the Black Lives Matter movement.
3. Liverpool players
In a sign of solidarity, the Liverpool players, current Champions League champion, posted a photo kneeling around the central circle of their stadium, along with #BlackLivesMatter on their Instagram. The message seeks to emulate the actions of Colin Kapernick, the former NFL quarterback who famously protested during the 2016 American anthem by kneeling.
