Leer en español: ¿Por qué Sergio Pérez tiene tanto éxito en las carreras urbanas?
The Mexican Sergio Pérez was crowned at the Singapore Grand Prix and also at the Marina Bay Circuit, confirming that he has become an expert in urban competitions. Thus, he gave a new victory to Red Bull and placed the name of Mexico at the top of Formula 1 worldwide.
Pérez beat outstanding exponents such as the Monégasque Charles Leclerc, the Spaniard Carlos Sainz, the British Lando Norris, the Australian Daniel Ricciardo, the Canadian Lance Stroll and the outstanding Sebastian Vettel in the Singapore GP, based on discipline, talent, and conviction.
He has excelled at Monaco, Jeddah and now Marina Bay, and he doesn't stop at breaking records and garnering accolades. According to data provided by Espn, "Checo" is the first winner in Monaco and Singapore since 2011, when Sebastian Vettel won both awards. Likewise, it is the first victory of a Red Bull driver in Singapore since 2013, being Vettel the one who achieved it in that year.
On the other hand, Pérez is the fifty-eighth driver to lead a race from start to finish in the history of Formula 1. And to this we must add that Red Bull has been on the podium in the last eleven races that have been held in Marina Bay.

The Reasons for Pérez's Success in Street Racing
Perhaps the versatility and great adaptability of Pérez help explain his success in this type of race. The Mexican has proven to perform at a high level in circuits where the tracks are usually narrow, with little room to exceed certain limits, and where the slightest mistake can cost a race or prevent culminating in the long-awaited podium.
Another reason is that Pérez frequently has very positive starts to the race, taking the lead from the start and not falling behind or allowing himself to be easily overtaken. This is coupled with the fastest laps he can put in during the race, leaving him well-packed for development and the pinnacle of the competition.
Already in the final part, Pérez frequently defends himself with total property, manages the times as he pleases and manages to escape until he reaches the finish line, which in part explains his comfortable and great results in urban competitions and that require a special skill.
As mentioned above, in the current season, the Mexican has achieved important results in urban competitions. In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, he finished in fourth place, in Melbourne, Australia, he took second place and in Azerbaijan he managed to stay in second place. To this, we must add his fourth place in Miami.
It should be noted that with the first place obtained in Singapore, Sergio Pérez got his sixth podium finish on the urban circuits. The others were reached in Baku 2016 (third place), Monaco 2016 (third place), Baku 2018 (third place), Baku 2021 (first place) and Monaco 2022 (first place).
"How much I needed this moment, we won and put our country where it deserves it. Excellent work, Red Bull Racing", posted "Checo" Pérez after his victory at the Marina Bay Urban Circuit. And it is possible that that statement will be reproduced again in his next street competition, where the Guadalajara-born is emerging as a proper winner.
