In Latin America, the Amazon has lost millions of hectares due to illegal mining, illicit crops, indiscriminate felling of trees, agriculture, illegal groups, among others. In less than 30 years, Colombia stopped having 6 million hectares of forest. Brazil, on the other hand, lost 790 thousand hectares in the last year, a figure that had not been registered for a decade.

The lung of the world is in danger, which is why different countries worldwide are interested in knowing the strategies that are being implemented in the region. An example of this is the donation made by Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland to stop deforestation.

These three countries donated 7 million dollars on December 17. The figure will help Colombia to approach its sustainability goals and implement strategies that mitigate the accelerated pace of deforestation.

According to Ole Reidar Bergum, Forestry and Climate Counselor at the Norwegian Embassy, this figure would be the first disbursement of two others that will be made next year. The Ministry of the Environment of Colombia, in its press release, explained that the money will be used in three lines of action that will help mitigate this scourge.

1. Ecosystems restoration and conservation: through a work with the community located in the department of Meta, the objective is to invest in 150 hectares in the Serrania de la Macarena National Park.

2. National Monitoring System: of the US $ 7 million, US $ 992,000 will be allocated for the consolidation of the National Monitoring, Reporting and Verification System. This will serve to bring control over the emission of greenhouse gases especially in the agricultural sector.

3. The last line of action will focus on reducing the pressure experienced by the Pacific forests. Like the second line, the state entities will work hand in hand with the communities of the region. For this project US $ 348,000 will be allocated.

This initiative is part of the International Cooperation alliances that seek to save the environmental welfare of the planet.
