In the middle of a recent industry, Juan Bustos, a Colombian, decided to create the first webcam university, which bears his name. Seeing how the world of webcam modeling was growing everywhere, but especially in Latin America and Colombia, this philosopher decided that it should be exploited but in a responsible way, allowing models to lay the foundations for decent work.

Through courses, unique sessions and even specializations, models interested in standing out in the webcam world are taught from sex toys to personal finance and psychology. In its third year of emergence alone, Juan Bustos University graduated 1000 students. The graduation ceremony, held on August 22, had talks, legalization advice and was attended by Nacho Vidal, the renowned porn actor.

In LatinAmerican Post we talked with Juan Bustos to tell us about the university and his attempt to professionalize this business.

LatinAmerican Post: How did you get to the webcamers business?

Juan Bustos: I was studying philosophy and psychoanalysis at the Antioquia University. I met a model who worked on one of these pages and I was very interested because I saw the opportunity to create a microenterprise in Medellín. When I started working, I understood that this job was not easy. I began to fall in love with the career and as I studied philosophy, I invented academic strategies that allowed me to explain to the models how to work.

LP: How has the industry evolved in recent years?

JB: It has taken leaps and bounds. Many people are now interested in venturing into modeling, which has led to greater professionalization. The best models have techniques, study, strive and project through different means and tools.

It has also become visible in Colombia, which has forced the establishment of a route for the formalization of work.

LP: But there is still a long way to go for the professionalization and destigmatization of this trade. What is missing to continue moving forward?

JB: For example in Colombia, the industry still faces several challenges, starting with the absence of legislation that regulates the activities of this sector. Although this process has already begun and the State begins to receive taxes from the webcam models, many studies already made the procedure using it, the rules that most adhered to the commercial activity that is carried out. But it does not end there, the models must continue to professionalize to remain competitive and the studies must have specialized work teams to provide all the tools to the models so that they can develop properly.

LP: What is taught in a Webcamer university that cannot be learned empirically?

JB: Webcam University provides teaching on topics such as seduction, user psychology, dance, creativity, neurolinguistics, body language management, among other aspects. Let me give you an example: A woman may feel that she seduces and yet not achieve her goals using only seduction. The set of tools that students obtain allows them to be able to express their desires with their gestures, with their eyes and be able to read and anticipate what a user wants.

LP: Upon entering the university page immediately a chat opens in which dozens of people talk about different topics. Sometimes recording techniques, payments and other curiosities. What is the purpose of this one?

JB: The purpose is simple, to be the window for hundreds of models in Colombia who have questions, who need a place to share with the webcam community, there, new models find advice from more advanced ones, some manage to clear up doubts, others identify themselves with situations of other camgirls. It is a channel of friendship in which the models find others who hold their hands.

LP: Does the University provide any employment link after finishing studies?

JB: With the University we give the models the possibility that some pages want to hire them for special shows. They are recognized and they get in the spotlight for even bigger projects. If we talk about a professional model, we begin to see that camgirls have a career and are there for a reason. But it will always be essential that she innovates, that she reinvents herself and that she understands that having arrived at the top does not mean relaxing, it means making daily efforts to keep and keep growing. It is required to learn something every day.

LP: How to fight the criticisms that arise towards this business?

JB: Undoubtedly there is a stigmatization of the business, which also faces the porn industry. The way to break it is by making it known; that people really know what it is, that the State recognizes that the business exists (something that has been advanced if we take into account that we pay specific taxes for the webcam industry). Also, giving the models the necessary tools to feel empowered, able to recognize and proudly lead the race, demonstrating that this is a decent job.

On the other hand, we live in a macho society. Machism is everywhere, I am not encouraged to think that there is machismo in modeling if in a chat room you find not only men, but also women as spectators, that there are both men and women as models, and that In fact, modeling is one of the few trades that brings together a number of genres that you will not see in offices where, probably, there are cases of sexual and labor harassment.
