Three years had to pass to feel those emotions that only the universe created by George RR Martin is capable of doing. And it is that for ten weeks in a row, Sundays were focused on the new episodes of "The House of the Dragon", a series that captured the attention of millions of viewers around the world. Blood, fire, conspiracies, and many dragons in the skies were just a part of what his first season gave us.

Unlike "Game of Thrones", this new story had the particularity of developing with several jumps in time. Thanks to the peace that existed in the Seven Kingdoms, King Viserys did not have so many problems governing, beyond choosing his successor to the Iron Throne. Characters like Daemon Targaryen, Otto Hightower, Alicent Hightower, and Rhaenyra Targaryen come into play here, the latter with fundamental roles since their adolescence.

Viserys's death in the eighth episode marked the path of what is already an imminent war and that originates the well-known Dance with Dragons. In a game of strategy and conspiracy, the side led by the Hightower usurped the throne by crowning Aegon II, the first son of the late King, in front of a crowd. This situation caused Rhaenys Targaryen to break into the said act with her dragon and escape to warn Rhaenyra, opening the way to the last episode.

The last sixty minutes of the first season of "The House of the Dragon" take place in Dragonstone, the home par excellence of the Targaryens. There, both Rhaenyra and Daemon get ready for what will be the answer to the Hightower for their acts of treason. In addition to that, the now Queen by decree will seek to strengthen her alliance with certain prestigious houses, a movement that will end up triggering a tragedy.

The Beginning Of The Tragic Dance With Dragons

The season finale of "The House of the Dragon" has as its highest point the chase with dragons under a storm, but we will leave that analysis for later. In fact, for this last episode, the scenes without much dialogue of the characters stood out, who managed to transmit to the viewer everything they felt and thought depending on the moment.

If in the first chapters we were all delighted with the performance of Milly Alcock as the young Rhaenyra, with Emma D'Arcy it has been the same or even better. Adulthood and motherhood made this Rhaenyra a worthy successor to the throne, as she responsibly understood everything her father taught her over the years. Therefore, each decision, doubt, or certainty was well justified.

But while his priority is keeping the kingdom together, for some that can be a sign of weakness. Hence Daemon and the rest of the knights are prepared to go to war as soon as possible. At this point in the plot, Rhaenyra does nothing but swallow her pride and the offense received by the Hightowers, thus focusing on how to deal with the situation without having to use brute force. This position earns her the respect of Rhaenys and Corlys Velaryon, who regard her as a righteous queen.

Regarding the final minutes, the first act of Dance with Dragons starred Lucerys and Aemond. The tragic accident that happens brings to mind a phrase of Viserys in the first episode: "The idea that we control the dragons is an illusion." And it certainly is, because as much as they have riders, these majestic beasts have their instincts and don't see things the way humans do. Accident or not, the real war of fire and blood starts from now on.

What To Expect From The Second Season?

The filming of the first season lasted approximately 10 months, not counting the time it took for post-production to finalize the details in special effects. After the success of the first episode of "The House of the Dragon", HBO did not hesitate to approve its second season. However, it will begin its recordings between April and May 2023, so we will have to wait until mid-2024 to continue with this fantastic story.

Officially there is no synopsis as of today, but many of us already have an idea of what is to come. In the first instance, the season should open with the continuation of the incident between Aemond, Lucerys, and their dragons. This point will be decisive in the actions that Rhaenyra will take against the Hightower.

In turn, the strategic movements of both sides to add allies will take on greater relevance. Houses like the Starks, Baratheons, or Lannisters are expected to have more prominence. Who will support whom? It is worth noting that in the book "Fire and Blood", Cregan Stark, Lord of Winterfell, has an important role in the events that are to come.

And what about the dragons? Well, they will surely take to the skies again. To those already known we could add those that Daemon mentioned during the last episode. But the battle will not only be by air since with the support of the Velaryon we may also enjoy epic battles on the high seas. Be that as it may, the expectations to see the outcome of this story will continue to grow as the days go by.
