5 LGBTQ+ Productions that will be Released Soon and that you Cannot Miss

June is the month of LGBTQ+ pride, and with it is an excellent opportunity to delve into the series and films that will be released in the coming months, and that should not be missed, mainly because a few years ago, it was challenging to find references of the community or productions that bet on making visible the problems of the collective. And if in the past, films such as "Brokeback Mountain," "Call Me by Your Name," "I am Simon," "Carol," "A Fantastic Woman" or "The Danish Girl"  stood out, nowadays others have taken center stage and are here to stay.

For the same reason, in the following article, we show you five LGBTQ+ productions that will premiere new seasons on Netflix, as is the case of "Heartstopper" and "Young Royals"; books that will be taken to the big screen ("Red, White & Royal Blue" and "Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe") and the successful Peruvian web series that returned after the pandemic, "You Should've Kept Going?"

"Heartstopper" (Second Season, Netflix)

One of the most outstanding series on Netflix last year was "Heartstopper," the story of Nick and Charlie, based on the webcomic and graphic novel by British Alice Oseman, which made fans fall in love. The success of its first season gave way to a second one, which will premiere next August 3.

The first season addressed the romance that formed between these two high school students. In that case, this new season promises to delve deeper into Nick and Charlie's courtship, the new adventures they will have together, and their fears and insecurities. In addition, LGTBTQ+ representation is high in the series, as Alice Osman, creator of the comic and screenwriter, drew on her own experiences.

"Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe" (Release Date to be Confirmed)

Considered one of the LGTBIQ+ books of the last decade, Aristotle and Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe has been taken to the big screen. The story, which tells the story of the friendship formed by two young people who are not very similar and how it deepens until it becomes something more, sees in its protagonists, Aristotle and Dante, the possibility of first love and the challenges that come with it.

A confirmed date for its premiere in Latin America still needs to be confirmed. However, the best seller by U.S. writer Benjamin Alire Saenz has already been screened during the second half of last year at the Toronto International Film Festival. Now, after it became official that the film and television studio Blue Fox Entertainment will distribute the film in the United States, the feature film is being screened at various festivals in the North American country.

"Red, White & Royal Blue" (Prime Video)

Prime Video could be included in this list. On August 11, the film adaptation of the novel of the same name by American Casey McQuiston, Red, White & Royal Blue, will be available on the streaming service.

The film tells the story of the son of the first female president of the United States and the grandson of the English queen. The two are initially adversaries, but after a misunderstanding that forces them to improve their relationship in the eyes of the press, they get to know each other intimately and form a special bond. Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzinea will play the protagonists, Alex Claremont-Díaz, son of the president of the United States, and Prince Henry, respectively.

"You Should've Kept Going?" (Youtube)

It may not belong to a central streaming platform, but the Peruvian web series "You Should've Kept Going?" has earned a space. It tells the story of Joaquín (Luis Chávez), a young high school student who falls in love with his best friend Daniel (Carlos Cabrera), a feeling that will eventually become deeper and more reciprocated.

The proposal, which began with a short film in 2017 and later had two seasons under the independent Peruvian production company Colectivo 360, currently become part of the audiovisual production company Ruido Rosa, and the team is in the final weeks of shooting the third season, as confirmed in the social networks of the web series. New episodes should be released in the coming months with a high representation of the collective that characterizes the series.

"Young Royals" (Third Season, Netflix)

Once again, Netflix appears on the list, this time with the Swedish series Young Royals, which a few months ago made it official that it would have a third and final season after two fruitful previous installments. And it is the story of princes Wilhelm and Simon, a schoolmate who finds the perfect formula to stand out and become one of the most talked about LGBTQ+ themed series of recent times.

There still needs to be a confirmed premiere date for this last season, but if we consider that filming began last April, the series should be released in the previous quarter of the year or at the beginning of 2024. There is no doubt that it will be worth the wait.
