The 36th annual Premio Lo Nuestro, set to be held in Miami on Thursday, February 22, is gearing up to be a grand celebration of Latin music’s finest. TelevisaUnivision announced the nominees, highlighting a dazzling array of talent that has shaped the musical landscape in the United States and beyond.
Leading the nominations with a striking 14 mentions is Colombian pop sensation Maluma. His categories include Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Crossover Collaboration of the Year, underscoring his monumental impact on the music scene.
Hot on Maluma’s heels are Mexican music sensations Peso Pluma and Grupo Frontera, earning 13 and 10 nominations, respectively. Their recognition spans key categories like Song, Album, and Artist of the Year, showcasing the diverse talent within the Latin music industry.
Feid and Karol G Make Waves
Colombian urban music star Feid and fellow Colombian artist Karol G, who bagged three awards at the 2023 Latin Grammy in Seville, Spain, each garnered nine nominations. Feid’s rise in the urban genre and Karol G’s consistent chart-topping performances have positioned them as significant forces in the music world.
Shakira, another Colombian superstar, secured five nominations across various categories, including Artist, Song, Female Pop Artist, Pop-Urban Collaboration, and Pop-Urban Song. Her continued relevance and evolution as an artist are reflected in these nominations.
Also vying for Artist of the Year are acclaimed artists Shakira, Bad Bunny, Camilo, Carin León, and Ozuna, demonstrating the vast array of talent within the Latin music industry. Song of the Year contenders include Shakira’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, vol. 53” with Bizarrap, “Ella baila sola” by Eslabón Armada & Peso Pluma, and Rosalía’s “Despechá.”
Fierce Competition in Album of the Year
The Album of the Year category is equally competitive, featuring “Mañana será bonito” by Karol G, “Génesis” by Peso Pluma, “Colmillo de leche” by Carin León, “Don Juan” by Maluma, and “El comienzo” by Grupo Frontera. Also nominated are albums by Carlos Vives, Feid, Romeo Santos, ha*ash, and Rauw Alejandro.
In the Urban Male Artist category, nominations include Arcángel, Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee, Eladio Carrión, Feid, Myke Towers, Ozuna, Rauw Alejandro, Ryan Castro, and Yandel. The female category features powerhouses like Karol G, Anitta, María Becerra, Becky G, Chesca, Natti Natasha, Nicki Nicole, Paopao, and Villano Antillano.
The Rising Artist category spotlights new talents like Peso Pluma, Beéle, Christian Slicea, and Dei V, among others. Female rising stars include Gale, J Noa, Joaquina, Kenia Os, La Joaqui, Ludmilla, Paopao, and Snow Tha Product.
“The Power of Ours” Theme
This year’s event, themed “The Power of Ours,” will be broadcast live on February 22 from Miami’s Kaseya Center by TelevisaUnivision. Mexican telenovela actress Angélica Vale, television actress Galilea Montijo, and Dominican TV host and actress Clarissa Molina are hosting the ceremony.
The Tour of the Year category includes nominations for Romeo Santos’ “Fórmula vol.3 tour,” Luis Miguel’s “Tour 2023,” Karol G’s “Mañana será bonito tour,” Rauw Alejandro’s “Saturno World Tour,” and RBD’s “Soy rebelde tour.”
Premio Lo Nuestro nominations are based on airplay on UFORIA stations from August 31, 2022, to September 1, 2023, along with streaming data and the assessment of a committee of music and entertainment experts.
