Netflix is usually very successful with documentaries. We saw it with very popular productions, as happened with The Last Dance; The social dilemma; or High Score. Well, in this case they have added a new story to the catalog of the content streaming application.
This is The Tinder swindler, a documentary that tells in first person the lives of its protagonists: Cecilie Fjellhøy, Pernilla Sjoholm and Ayleen Charlotte, a group of women who were seduced by Simon Leviev through the popular dating application. Everything was going relatively well, until they realized that it was all a hoax.
This production reveals the details of how this person pretended to be a millionaire who led a life of luxury. In other words, through different tricks, he sought financing to defraud his victims and abandon them to their fate. Here we tell you more details about this great documentary.
The success of The Tinder swindler
The first thing to mention is that this production shows very well how different dating applications work. If you have ever used one, you will have realized that what mainly matters is the physical. After all, you decide whether or not to “match” another person based on their profile pictures.
Well, the truth is that authenticity is always a dilemma. After all, no one knows for sure if the person behind the app is the same as who they claim to be. This is what happened to Cecilie, who coincided with a handsome millionaire and believed that he would come to “save her life”. However, when he found out, he had lost all his savings.
, a tycoon’s son who works in the diamond industry. Here the key is that the deception was not physical, since the person coincided with their profile photos. However, the life he had was not real at all.
For example, on first dates he took women to 5-star hotels or used his private plane for a ride. This coincided with his accounts on social networks, because there he showed what the luxuries of his life were like. However, here things start to get quite dramatic and this is what explains the effectiveness of his deception.
When he felt that they were in love, one day he called them and told them that someone was going to kill him: he needed to escape underground and he couldn’t use his bank accounts because they were going to track him down. Therefore, the victims of his deception gave him everything they had.

In some cases, they were figures like 10 thousand dollars. However, on other occasions they reached 140 thousand dollars. On some occasions, they even asked for a loan to pay that money, trusting that it would be returned “in cash” at some point. And therein lies the spirit of this documentary, which serves to warn other women of these situations.

Sirve como ayuda a la reparación de víctimas de un millonario psicópata. Donde no parece llegar ninguna justicia a nivel legal, el documental usa el género para condenar públicamente y viralizar sus delitos. Shimon Hayut, also known on Tinder as Simon Leviev, is a man who was born in a city east of Tel Aviv. He started making scams in his 20s, when he took checks from his family. When he decided to travel to Finland to start his life, since in Israel he was accused of fraud, he realized that Tinder could be a great source of money.
For this reason, in 2015 he started scamming women on Tinder, until he was discovered and spent two years in prison. However, he did not learn the lesson: in 2017 he returned to Israel and escaped to Europe, where he met other women who fell into his trap. He lived on the run until July 2019, when he was discovered with a false passport.
Although in 2019 he was convicted of theft, fraud and forgery of documents in Israel, he only spent 5 months in jail. In total, he is believed to have extorted some $10 million from his victims. Currently, he is free and until a few days ago he had an Instagram with more than 200 thousand followers.
However, the company decided to eliminate it due to the commotion of the series. The great success of the production lies in this: telling a story with a fast pace, but that can also serve to make people aware of the risks involved in meeting people through social networks.
At the end of the day, you always have to take extreme precautions to avoid these possible deceptions. If you want to know all the details of this story, in addition to understanding how revenge was consolidated by a woman, you should enter this platform to discover it. Totally recommended!
