Cuba, Mexico, and Venezuela: the countries with the most participants
Three countries lead the number of participants of the XXIII edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games Barranquilla 2018, which begin on Thursday, July 19. To the capital of the Atlantic arrives in Cuba, the country with the most victories in the history of the competition. According to the official page of the sports event, Cuba accumulates 3320 medals in its cabinets: 1752 of gold, 889 of silver, and 679 of bronze.

This media also informs that Cubans will be competing in 34 sports and in 80% of the 547 tests arranged in Central America and the Caribbean.
Mexico is another of the countries that have maintained leadership in the competitions. By 2018, the Aztec country arrives in Barranquilla with a delegation of 666 athletes: 360 men and 306 women, who will be participating in 409 tests, according to El Sol del Centro.
In this regard, Alfredo Castillo, director of the Conade, sports institute of Mexico, told the media that "it has been exerted almost 350 million pesos; 150 million for the participation of events, 120 million for the payment of coaches, multidisciplinary team and sports scholarships, 75 million for the direct participation of our athletes in the city of Barranquilla."
Behind the Cubans and Mexicans is Venezuela, which will arrive in with a delegation of 400 athletes to Colombia. The Ministry of Communication and Information announced that its athletes will be participating in 20 sports and it is estimated that the greatest successes would come from competitions such as weightlifting, baseball, and taekwondo. In almost a century of history of the Central American and Caribbean Games, Venezuela has won 564 gold, 782 silver, and 918 bronze medals, according to data from the official page of the competition, Barranquilla2018.
