Millonarios FC Women Seeks A Fresh Start with Coach Angie Vega for the 2024 BetPlay Women’s League

Millonarios FC Women are setting their sights on the 2024 BetPlay Femenina League, aiming to become contenders and dream of their inaugural championship title in the tournament. The team has previously participated in the league five times and is now embarking on its sixth journey with fresh aspirations and a new coaching staff.

Angie Vega Takes the Helm

Heading the helm is Angie Vega, a native of Valle del Cauca, who brings a wealth of experience. Vega, who previously led Antofagasta in Chile, has also worked as an assistant coach for Deportivo Cali and various Colombian Women’s National Team categories. In her playing days, she represented the Valle del Cauca selection, competed in the 2018 league with Cortuluá, and donned the jersey of Everton de Viña del Mar. This marks her debut as a head coach in Colombia, and Millonarios FC Women is the first team she will lead in the country.

“Angie Vega is the new head coach of Millonarios FC Women. The Valle del Cauca native will spearhead the team’s 2024 project. Millonarios FC will be her first coached team in Colombia,” announced the club through its official channels.
While Millonarios FC Women has already assembled its squad for the challenges of 2024, the team has yet to make its roster or any new signings official. The Embajadoras (Ambassadors) will kick off their preseason preparations in early January. However, the start date and format of the Femenina League and the participating teams are yet to be determined.

Millonarios FC Women’s Track Record

Since 2019, Millonarios FC Women has been a consistent participant in the BetPlay Femenina League. They have reached the semifinals twice (in 2019 and 2020) and the quarterfinals once (in 2022) and failed to qualify for the final stages on two occasions. Lina Gómez is the team’s all-time leading scorer with ten goals.

In the previous edition of the league in 2023, the Embajadoras finished fifth with 22 points, securing six victories, four draws, and suffering six losses. They narrowly missed advancing to the final stages by just one point, ending their campaign bittersweetly.
With Angie Vega’s appointment as head coach, Millonarios FC Women is optimistic as they prepare for the 2024 BetPlay Femenina League. The Valle del Cauca native’s extensive experience as a player and a coach is expected to bring a fresh perspective and a winning mentality to the team.
