Leer en español: Airbnb y otras empresas que ya trabajan completamente desde casa

Airbnb recently made news when it announced that it will let its employees work and live from anywhere in the United States. Working from home, which of course started as a consequence of COVID-19, has become a conscious decision on the part of the various companies.

As the CEO of this company, Brian Chensky, said in the letter announcing the change to his employees: “New companies today have embraced remote work and flexibility, and I think this will become the predominant way in which we will all be working on in 10 years. This is where the world goes."

But not only Airbnb has seen the advantages of this way of working. Here we show you other companies that have opted for virtuality.

Twitter

Although it is difficult to know what the future of the company will be, due to its recent acquisition by the tycoon Elon Musk, Twitter has already allowed its employees to work from home from wherever they want for some time.

This was announced by its CEO, Parag Agrawal, in a post on the platform about a month ago. “Wherever you feel most productive and creative is where you will work and that includes working from home full time forever,” he said in that post.

However, as Musk is one of the biggest supporters of face-to-face work, who knows how long and under what conditions this policy will be maintained.

Spotify

The company behind the world's most popular music app already has a "Work from Home" program running from February 2021.

According to the platform page: “We believe in offering our people the freedom to choose where to work. This means that for most positions you can choose to work from home or in the office. You might even be able to work in a different city or country than your team, as long as it's based in the same region and makes sense for your role.”

The company also offers the possibility of doing hybrid work, or completely face-to-face.

Lyft

This Uber-like transportation company boasts a “completely flexible” work environment in which workers can choose to work from wherever they want. Some of the virtual positions they offer are Claims Advocate, Customer Service Specialist, and Security & Compliance. According to Lyft, this new flexible work environment is based on four pillars: impact, responsibility, personal connection and openness to new ways of working.

It's worth mentioning that just like many big companies Lyft has promoted the move to full virtuality, there are others that have taken the completely opposite path. Giants like Google, Apple and Netflix have looked for ways to bring employees back to the office. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings even told the Wall Street Journal that he "didn't see any benefits of working from home" and that "not being able to meet in person, particularly internationally, is purely a negative."
