Leer en español: Bad Bunny se consagra como el nuevo monarca de Spotify

There is no risk in saying that Bad Bunny is the king of contemporary music. The Puerto Rican continues to dominate the charts with the most sales and streams around the world after the release of his most recent studio album “Un Verano Sin Ti”. His superiority in music platforms is maintained after a brilliant 2021 and after the publication of his latest project, he has slipped into a list of artists who have conquered the music world during the era of streaming platforms.

A Golden Debut

On May 6, “Un Verano Sin Ti” was released for the first time and the album, which has 23 songs, was a new triumph for the Puerto Rican. The project registered more than 183 million views on the Spotify platform within the first twenty-four hours after its publication, setting a record for a new album on the leading platform in the field of digital music.

In addition, Spotify has announced that reggaeton's fourth studio album has been the most played so far this year, surpassing the album by American rapper Kendrick Lamar, who released his album "Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers” a week after Bad Bunny exhibited his new album.

The triumph of the album on Spotify was total, all 23 tracks were in the top 30 worldwide on the day of release. Likewise, nine of the songs were in the top 10 of the platform. This is great news for Latin music, which, according to the United States Recording Industry, will generate revenues of more than one billion dollars in 2022, after the 886 reported the previous year. Bad Bunny is on the list of most successful Latin artists along with Karol G and Anitta.

The 100 Million Club

The reggaeton's fourth studio album has earned him a place among high-impact artists in recent years. Although Bad Bunny is the new ruler of Daniel Ek's platform, the mark for the highest number of views in one day was set by Canadian rapper Drake, who reached 176.8 million when he released his latest album "Certified Lover Boy" in 2021, breaking a record previously set by himself in 2018 after releasing “Scorpion.”

Drake is considered the best artist of the past decade and has been the monarch of this list in recent years reaching such numbers. It has only been surpassed by the Puerto Rican after reclaiming the throne with the release of “Un Verano Sin Ti”. But in this select list, there are artists of high weight in the music industry such as Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, and XXXTentacion.

Bad Bunny's hits transcend the digital music platform. According to data compiled by Billboard, the music magazine specializing in music, Benito is the first Latin artist to top the world charts within a week of the album's debut. One of the many achievements that he can add to his cabinet and just as it is not a risk to say that Bad Bunny is the king of current music, it is not nonsense to affirm that 2022 will be the year of the Puerto Rican.
