Colombian Gov seeks to increase presidential term to five years

Minister of Interior Juan Fernando Cristo outlined the proposal for the Congress, El Espectador newspaper reported.

Several political figures advocate for increasing public mandates considering that four years is a short time if there is no reelection, a process that was eliminated through another reform.

Such initiative seeks also to eliminate the post of Vice President of the Republic and bring back the post of presidential appointee, which existed before the Constitution of 1991.

If this initiative is passed by the Congress, it will be enforced by 2018, for the next presidential term.
