What’s new in this year’s Earth Hour
This year’s Earth Hour will take place at 8:30 pm local time on March 25. It is the time for hundreds of millions of people around the world to switch off their lights for one hour to demonstrate commitment to fighting climate change.
For 2017 WWF has created a completely new way to participate. It is inviting artists to broadcast live sets for their fans around the world during the Earth Hour through Facebook Live or another channel using the #EarthHourLive. During the whole day they’ll be sharing the best musical sets seen.
WWF’s Earth Hour started as an idea to unite Sydney-siders to take a stand for climate action in 2007. For the last 10 years it has grown to become the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment. Today the Earth hour takes places in 178 countries and territories and also took place in the International Space Station.
More so it serves as an empowering mechanism, inspire policy-level change in companies and governments. Also since 2016 they implemented the ‘Just One’ hotels program.
It “invites guests to help WWF and Earth Hour to change climate change one night at a time. For every night a guest spends at a participating hotel, they can ask the property to include estimated USD1 to the total bill and contribute to WWF’s efforts to build a brighter, climate-safe future for our planet.”
