OAS calls for wider and stronger sanctions against Venezuela
From Geneva, the Secretary General of the American agency, Luis Almagro, emphasized his ruling on the global collective blindness that has been given to the Venezuelan regime
From the Organization of American States (OAS), at the head of the Secretary General of the international institution, Luis Almagro said and urged the international community to increase sanctions currently performed with the government of Nicolas Maduro, and stated that, if necessary, expand and become a stronger character since the Venezuelan government, according Almagro, represents a threat to international peace and security.
Almagro made this statement from Geneva, Switzerland, in the framework of the meeting of dissidents from several countries sponsored by the NGO Human Rights Watch last February 20. This same NGO has done studies on the process of post–conflict in Colombia, and international observer of the Civil War in Syria.
One of the most powerful statements that said Almagro was: ''The most terrible punishment for the Venezuelan people would be six additional years of repression and dictatorship, hunger, disease, and deprivation of human rights'', said the Secretary General, making a political analysis if hypothetically Nicolas Maduro were to win the presidential elections in the Bolivarian nation.
''The most terrible punishment for the Venezuelan people would be six additional years of repression and dictatorship, hunger, disease, and deprivation of human rights'', said Almagro
In addition to the above, Almagro is concerned international indifference on the regime of the Venezuelan government and the state of defenseless citizens of the South American country, saying that no state should be indolent about the needs that the people of Venezuela suffer every day, from lack of food, to the loss of democracy in their nation.
Adding to the statement in Geneva, Almagro asked the international community not to continue shielding on the principle of 'non – intervention', in order to remove the responsibility we have with every country in the world, but, on the contrary, propose solutions through diplomatic channels to end what Almargo considers a socialist dictatorship. The OAS Secretary urged also that if sanctions harden the government of Venezuela, the losers will not be Venezuelans walk facing the crisis, but those who profit from the poor quality of life that the country has at this time, making an inference about the high pro-government Bolivarian controls.
The OAS has made every effort to increase sanctions against the regime of Nicolas Maduro, but it needs the support of the international arena, such as the European Union
Finally, Almagro said the OAS, a multilateral organization and which he heads, has made every effort to increase sanctions against the regime of Nicolas Maduro, but needs the support not only of the American continent, but also in the international arena such as the European Union. Ending his address in Switzerland, the Secretary General said the OAS has been the only international organization that has not left the political and social problems of Venezuela aside and that the voice of his institution will always be strong and clear when defending the interests of Venezuelan people.
