In 2021, Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe began with several interesting productions. It is worth mentioning that to date, the Latin American presence in the MCU had been very scarce, but that totally changed when we saw Salma Hayek become the leader of the Eternals.

Eternals introduces us to a new legion of Marvel superheroes in the form of immortal aliens, who emerge from hiding after thousands of years to protect Earth . Among the characters, Ajak stands out, a spiritual leader who is represented by the strength and wisdom of the Mexican actress.

As of this writing, "Eternals" has grossed more than $ 200 million at the box office. Among the promotional interviews for the film, one carried out with Salma Hayek by the program Despierta América, of the Univisión network, stands out. There, the actress explained what this role meant to her and all the impact it has brought to the Latino community in Hollywood. It is worth mentioning that with her was also the Argentine producer Victoria Alonso, executive president of physical production at Marvel Studios.

During the talk, the actress confessed that her first reaction when putting on the suit was crying: «When I put it on I started crying" she said. Likewise, Victoria also wanted to highlight the importance of that moment and what a superhero costume can represent for Latin American boys and girls. It is worth noting that it was thanks to the production company that Salma was able to play Ajak: «There was no other person for me who played this character than Salma. The moment I saw her with the suit, everything changed because if that is possible, many other things are possible, " said Victoria.

In addition to the premiere of "Eternals" and "House of the Gucci" (where she also acts), the Mexican actress will enter the privileged list of personalities with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. On November 19, the ceremony will be held that will further enlarge the figure of one of the most beloved representatives of the entire Latin American community.

The great 2021 for other Latin actresses

Beyond all that Salma Hayek's debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has meant, other Latin actresses have also had a very productive 2021. Eiza González, for example, had a prominent role in the film "I Care a Lot", a satire of capitalism filled with much black comedy and sarcasm by its director J Blakeson. In addition, the Mexican also said present in one of the most anticipated films of the year: "Godzilla vs Kong."

Another of the great representatives of Mexico who enjoyed a busy year with several productions is Ana de la Reguera . The one born in Veracruz participated in director Zack Snyder's "Army of the Dead", not to mention that she had a cameo in the prequel to said film: "Army of the Thieves". She also played the tough girl in "The Forever Purge", the fourth installment of this bloody saga.

For her part, one of the rising stars who is beginning to make a name for herself in Hollywood is Ana de Armas. Being a Bond girl is a privilege for many, and the Cuban actress represented the entire Latino community with her outstanding performance in "No Time to Die," the 25th film in the franchise that brings James Bond to life. This time, Ana played a CIA agent who plays a key role in the most recent 007 mission.

Finally, we could not close this review without mentioning one of the young women with the greatest projection in the film industry: Anya Taylor-Joy. Of Argentine origins, this girl continues to demonstrate her versatility on the big screen, and for this 2021 she surprised us in "Last Night in Soho", a psychological horror film that stands out for the mystical halo that connects her character with that of her co-star Thomasin Mckenzie.

Without a doubt, this year has been marked by great films represented by actresses who leave the Latino community high. The experience and seniority of Salma Hayek or Ana de la Reguera has been mixed with the good present of figures such as Eiza González, Ana de Armas and Anya Taylor-Joy, without forgetting that behind them there are many more names who seek to make a path in Hollywood.
