After more than 40 years, Star Wars is still alive. While the Skywalker film saga came to an end with the last trilogy of films, the saga is kept alive by parallel stories that feed into the original story.

Since the launch of the Disney + platform, the George Lucas universe has continued to expand. "The Mandalorian", one of the most successful productions in the history of this service, is a good example of this.

In the case of "Star Wars Visions", this was born as a risky idea that seeks to renew the image of the saga through something that had never been seen so far: anime.

"Star Wars Visions": an innovative project

The first thing to mention is that, unlike other projects, "Star Wars Visions" will function as an anthology series. For example, in "The Bad Batch" or "The Clone Wars" we had seen an animated production that maintained a plot developed over several seasons. Here we will have chapters with stories that work separately.

This unique approach to the galactic universe has a peculiarity: the stories that will be told will not be canonical. This does not mean that they will not take place within the Star Wars timeline, but the idea is that they are taken as alternative plots, as is the case with the Expanded Universe comics.

In this sense, Lucasfilm mentioned that they gave "total freedom" to the creators, to tell completely new stories, although, as we will see later, the titles of the episodes could be associated with some historical places within the world created in the cinema, such as is the case of Tatooine.

All this leads to something important: an experimental tone that can already be seen in the trailer. This is related not only to the aesthetics of the anime but also to the dark/tragic tone of the product. It is even anticipated that being short stories, the pace will be frenetic and it will appeal to perfecting the action scenes.

On the other hand, each chapter will use novel animation techniques, which will depend on the creative studios. As for the stories, some classic resources from the saga will be present, such as the fight between Jedi and Sith or the use of the powers of the Force. Even the forces of the Empire or the Rebellion will be present in some episodes.

The idea is that in "Star Wars Visions" there are chapters based on different periods of the Galaxy, such as the prequels, the original stories or the sequels. For example, there are some episodes that will be located before Episode I, between Episode III and Episode IV, or after Episode IX, which marked the end of the film saga.

While the idea is to prioritize the new characters that will be introduced in this anime, it is also likely that familiar faces will appear, such as Jabba the Hutt or Boba Fett. To confirm the introduction of other more important characters, you will have to wait until you see the episodes, as they will surely seek to surprise you.

With 9 episodes, the title of each of them and the studies that will be behind each one have already been reported. Next, we tell you:

  • The Duel – Kamikaze Douga
  • Lop and Ochō – Geno Studio
  • The Twins – Trigger
  • The Elder – Trigger
  • Tatooine Rhapsody – Studio Colorful
  • The Village Bridge – Kinema Citrus
  • Akakiri – Science Saru
  • T0-B1 – Science Saru
  • The Ninth Jedi – Production IG

Some of these producing studios are quite well known, such as Production IG, in charge of the hit anime series "Shingeki no Kyojin".

The series is scheduled to premiere on September 22, 2021, on the Disney + service. Undoubtedly, it will seek to attract the public specialized in anime and that never gave this saga a chance, but also staunch Star Wars fans, who want a visual and narrative renewal in this universe.
