We are less than a month away from fulfilling the first year since the vaccination process against COVID-19 began and if this has been characterized by something, it is by the inequity between the vaccination percentages between the richest countries and the poorest. This implies a more distant global immunization. Along with this situation, we find more and more countries implementing the third booster dose for people over 60 years of age or with comorbidities, and even for their entire population. Other countries that are applying the third dose are Israel, China, Hungary, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Canada, the United States, France and Austria.

It is important to note that the most effective way to deal with the pandemic, the virus and its variants is for the vaccine to have the widest possible coverage. As long as inequity in vaccination administration continues to exist globally, it is highly unlikely that we will achieve herd immunity quickly.
