Leer en español: Estas son las mejores latinas en la WTA

With the twilight of the Williams sisters' careers, few female tennis stars are in the popular imagination. Even more so in the case of Latin America, where women who reach this level are scarce. It is for this reason that we want to talk a little about the best Latinas in the WTA, to give them a little more recognition and highlight their achievements.

(The rankings in this article are current as of September 28, 2021, and are subject to change.)

Nadia Podoroska- 36 in the world

This 24-year-old Argentinian is the highest-rated Latina tennis player in the world. With a career record of 294/165, Podoroska has won 14 ITF singles titles. As for Grand Slams, her best result came in 2020, when she was a semi-finalist at Roland Garros. Her current ranking is the highest she has had in her entire career.

María Camila Osorio- 70 in the world

This Colombian born in Cúcuta is the sensation of the moment in Colombian tennis. At just 19 years old, she already won her first WTA title by winning the Claro Copa Colsanitas 2021. It is worth noting that she has only competed as a professional since 2016. María Camila has a career record of 114/55 and her best performance in a Grand Slam was at Wimbledon 2021, where she reached the third round of the tournament.

Beatriz Haddad Maia- 116 in the world

The difference between the second woman and the third woman on this list shows how difficult it is to compete at this level, as well as the shortage of Latinas who manage to reach it. Haddad Maia is originally from Brazil, Sao Paulo, and the best position she has managed to reach in the rankings since she started her career in 2010 was 58. With a record of 331/163, Maia has captured 17 ITF titles.

Renata has only participated in one Grand Slam, the 2020 Roland Garros, where she was eliminated in the second round.

Daniela Seguel- 221 in the world

The 28-year-old Chilean has been a professional since 2010. Her career record is 350/237 and she has accumulated 16 ITF titles. Due to physical problems, since 2018, her career went into decline, reaching number 162 in the world.
