The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) carries out each year the Fashion Awards, which in the industry are known as the Fashion Oscars. The red carpet of the prizes is, in addition, the opportunity for the designers to take with them some of their muses -or several- and show all that their fashion house has to offer. This year, although never as bold as the looks of the Met Gala, the fringes, feathers, brilliants, and pastel colors predominated.
These were some of the most important awards of this edition:
1. Founder's award – Carine Roitfeld
This Frenchwoman has been part of the fashion world for more than three decades and in those years she has served as a model, writer and even was the editor of Vogue Paris, and now works as a kind of consultant, "offering brands-ranging from Chanel to Yeezy-access to her singular vision", according to the CFDA website.
This award is given in honor of Eleanor Lambert, the founder of the Council more than 50 years ago and is a recognition to people who have given their lives to the world of fashion and have contributed from their field. In the case of Roitfeld, the communication of fashion and her stylistic imprint have led her to obtain this award.

2. Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti international award – Sarah Burton
This prize is given on behalf of the Valentino Garavani foundation and Giancarlo Giammetti, a foundation of charity acts of the Valentino house, of which both are founders. Both are part of the CFDA and award this prize to someone who has managed to take their brand to great limits.
This year, the winner was Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen. Burton, in her role in the big fashion house, which also this year gave herself the luxury of dressing Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue, has managed to "preserving its core values while establishing it as an internationally-recognized brand," according to CFDA.
3. Fashion Icon Award – Jennifer Lopez
This woman, mainly known for her performance, is also a singer, producer, fashion designer, entrepreneur and renowned for her humanitarian work. In 2018, Forbes named her on the list of the 100 most influential people and for that same reason, this year she won the fashion icon award. Whether as an actress, her style or her personal brand, JLo is a woman who has left women – and, of course, fashion – aloft.
4. Board's director's tribute – Barbie
More than a doll, Barbie has been a sign of female empowerment, which for 60 years has been a fashion symbol. Today, Barbie seeks to be proof that you can be who you want to be, and your contribution to the industry also deserved to be recognized. "And with 60 years of experience and over 200 careers and counting, she's made an indelible mark on society while continuously inspiring all ages to believe that they can be anything," says CFDA.
In addition to these, other awards were also given: twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, for their brand The Row, won the award for accessories designer; Emily Adams with Boda won emerging designer; female fashion designer, Brandon Maxwell; and male fashion designer, Rick Owens; among others.
