2021 was a less harsh year than 2020 in terms of athlete deaths. No legend left, as would a Kobe Bryant or a Maradona. However, several big names are on the list of athletes who died in 2021. Here we bring you some of them.
"Marvelous" Marvin Hagler
"Marvelous" Marvin Hagler was a world champion boxer in the middleweight category for 7 years, from 1980 to 1987. He died on March 13 of this year, at age 66, after experiencing breathing difficulties and chest pains. Hagler fought 67 times over 14 years as a professional in Brockton, Massachusetts, finishing 62-3-2 with 52 knockouts. He was one of the highest-profile boxers of his time. His fight against Thomas Hearns is considered one of the best in the entire history of the sport.

Hank Aaron
Hank Aaron, who died at 86, was a professional baseball player who for 33 years held the record for hitting more home runs (755) than anyone in Major League history. Aaron is remembered to remove this mark from the great Babe Ruth, which is why he received racist threats and insults. "Hammerin 'Hank" passed away in January this year of natural causes.

Frank Williams
Frank Williams is remembered for being one of the most important figures in Formula 1, as the founder of the Williams team. Her greatest achievement was placing her in the fourth echelon of the top World Championship winners and obtaining 16 titles with her. Williams was behind some of the most successful drivers in Formula 1, such as Juan Pablo Montoya himself, and will be remembered as a fundamental part of this competition. Williams passed away at age 79, on November 28.

Lee Elder
Finally, we have a pioneer from the world of golf. This is Lee Elder, the first African American to compete in a Masters tournament. Elder participated in 448 PGA Tour events, winning four times, and was a champion eight times on the PGA Tour Champions. During his career, he faced various acts of racism (such as a spectator catching his ball and throwing it into a bush) but always kept his composure. Elder died at the age of 87, on November 29, 2021.
