Britney Spears in her own words
Britney Spears is an icon of pop music, a winner of multiple platinum albums and a Grammy Award, and one of the most celebrated and successful artists in the history of pop music, with nearly 150 million records sold worldwide. In the United States alone, she has sold over seventy million albums, singles, and songs, according to Nielsen Music. Born in Mississippi and raised in Louisiana, Spears gained popularity as a teenager when she released her debut single, "…Baby One More Time," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and became an international success, breaking sales records with over twenty million copies sold worldwide and achieving fourteen times platinum in the United States.
"Hold Me Closer" debuted as number one on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, bringing together Elton John and Britney Spears, two of the most iconic artists of all time, for the first time. The song climbed the charts after Britney had gone nearly ten years without achieving a similar feat. The album also reached number one in Australia and Canada, peaked at number three on the UK chart, and reached number one on iTunes in over forty countries worldwide upon its release. Produced by Andrew Watt, the song is a refreshingly contemporary twist on one of Elton John's most iconic hits, "Tiny Dancer," and also incorporates elements of other classic songs from his legendary catalog, including "The One" and "Don't Go Breaking My Heart."
