Is abdominal fat linked to cancer?

A study by the University of Michigan connects obesity to higher chances of malignant tumors

Is abdominal fat linked to cancer?

Globally, the countries with highest levels of overweight and obesity are: Mexico with 69.5%, the United States with 68%, New Zealand with 62.6%, the United Kingdom with 61.4%, Ireland with 61%, Canada with 60%, and Chile with 59.7%. These high percentages are a sign that obesity is a global health issue. But what problems exactly does obesity cause?

Abdominal fat is the accumulation of oils or lipids in the lower front region of our torso. If it is not regulated or adequately controlled, it can cause pathologies such as cerebral cardiovascular accidents, hypertension, diabetes, and the most worrying, some types of cancer. Some cells can go from being simple and normal to tumors that can turn IGNORE INTO cancer. Studies show that obesity can be related to tumors of the breast, colon, prostate, uterus and kidney. As for other diseases, being overweight is also linked to hernias, sleep apnea, stretch marks, urinary incontinence, infarcts, varicose veins, and pulmonary embolism, among others.

Scientists from the University of Michingan, USA, published a study that links obesity and cancer. The study was published in Oncogene, an academic journal that divulges studies related to various fields of oncology developed in the most prestigious universities of the world. The study we are particularly interested in states that: “there have been many advances and treatments against the cure of cancer, which have been evidenced in patients who have overcome this disease. However, it is worrying that more and more new cases and cancer findings appear in people”. James Bernard, the lead author of the study and research, says: “You have to know the true origin, which will reduce the number of cases from diabetic or therapeutic interventions”.

Health professionals recommend that, in order to combat the risks of abdominal fat and diabetes, you should consume foods such as fruits, vegetables and shellfish. They also recommend weight control and physical activity such as walking, jogging, gymnastics, swimming, cycling, or tennis. It is recommended that cardiovascular exercise is accompanied by training sessions for muscle strengthening as well as endurance activities.

Keep in mind that when something is not right in our body, it sends us warning signs. We should be aware of these signs because they let us know when our body and our health are deteriorating. Therefore, it is also recommended to attend annual medical check-ups to avoid complications in health. If weight is kept in check, the risk of cancer is reduced.
