The Norwegian forward of Manchester City Erling Haaland received this Thursday in Monaco the award for the best player of the year from UEFA, after his first season in the English team, in which he won the Champions League, the "Pemier", the Cup of England and the European Super Cup.

Erling Haaland's season

At the age of 23, Haaland closed his first campaign in the team led by the Spanish Pep Guardiola with 12 goals in the "Champions", four more than his immediate rival, the Egyptian Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and the record number of 36 in the english league.

The Norwegian international, who became the youngest player to sign 35 goals in the Champions League, takes over from French striker Karim Benzema in the list of winners of the award, which was also up for his teammate, Belgian Kevin de Bruyne and the Argentine Leo Messi, after passing through the French PSG and now at Inter Miami.

The winners of the UEFA Best of the Season awards are chosen by a jury of coaches and journalists, after an initial shortlist made by UEFA's technical study group, based on their performance.

What's next for Erling Haaland?

Like every star after a record-breaking season, Haaland will face the challenge of surpassing himself in the coming one. Although he is the best footballer of the season that is ending and despite the records he broke; for some analysts, the Norwegian has not fully adapted to his coach's style of play. In addition, towards the end of the season he had a slight decline, since he only scored one goal during eight games.

So, even though he is in the prime of his career so far, Erling Haaland still has room to grow. Although he has just won the UEFA award, this is not yet his sporting ceiling, since his career as a footballer is still promising. His age also helps him. Having won several titles this season and the UEFA award at just 23 years of age leaves you wondering what's next for him.

We will be waiting for the answer.
