The film industry had its strongest year. To avoid the increase in infections, some activities had to stop. This included, of course, theaters, which was a problem for many releases, which had to be postponed in order to be able to appear on the big screen once the pandemic is over.

Also, some productions were paralyzed due to the difficulties of working the films. According to Variety, movie theaters had up to $ 31 billion in losses. However, that was no excuse for there to be some premieres before the pandemic in small rooms or on streaming platforms. Let's see, then, the best movies of 2020.

Mank

One of the last releases of the year by prolific director David Fincher. The film premiered on Netflix portrays the life of Herman J. Mankiewicz, the screenwriter of one of the most important films in the history of cinema: Citizen Kane, directed by Orson Wells.

With a magnificent performance by Gary Oldman, the life of a controversial personality in old Hollywood is revealed. Considered a love letter to the cinema, the staging to recreate the 30s and 40s is excellent, so it is a work that has a perfect direction and photography for moviegoers.

The Trial of The Chicago Seven

A drama by Aaron Sorkin available on Netflix. In this production, we are situated in the 60s, a very busy decade in the United States.

Based on real events, the film shows us different media judgments of the group known as Chicago Seven, a group of protesters who opposed the Vietnam War. The film takes itself very seriously and serves perfectly to understand a truly important event in American culture, with outstanding performances that come to move.

Da 5 Bloods

According to Hypertextual, this film directed by Spike Lee finds him "in top form" and becomes his most ambitious and mature film, this being a criticism of the injustices of society.

The rebellion against the system occurs, again, from the perspective of the Vietnam War. Clearly inspired by the war genre, it portrays the life story of a group of American veterans who decide to return to the Asian country to search for their fallen commander, as well as a treasure that they buried during the battle. An excellent rhythm, script and social criticism by this director.

The invisible man

One of the best films released this year, perfect if you are a lover of suspense and science fiction. Directed by Leigh Whannell, this film generates tension during its two hours of footage, leaving the viewer with the same doubts as to the protagonist.

Cecilia, played by the magnificent Elisabeth Moss, dramatically projects everything that happens to her internally. Therefore, it is a film in which tension is part of the narrative structure itself and we empathize with the emotional state of the protagonist.

As we could see, 2020 was a really atypical year for cinema, but that did not deprive us of having some really remarkable works. We hope that 2021 can be much better, with all the premieres that had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis.
