Although soccer will be one of the main sports in this new year, there are also great events for fans of winter sports, athletics and basketball. Here are the most important sporting events of 2022.
Qatar World Cup 2022
The most anticipated world event of this 2022 is, without a doubt, the soccer world cup. On this occasion, Qatar 2022 – due to weather conditions – will delay its date to the end of the year, from November 21 to December 18 on Christmas Eve. So far there are just over a dozen countries that have already secured their place in this championship. Only Brazil and Argentina have qualified from Latin America.
Winter Olympic Games
Beijing returns to host an Olympics. In this case, it will be the Winter Olympic Games, a competition that will begin this February 4 and will last until the 20th of the same month. Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Puerto Rico will be the countries in the region that will participate in the contest.
African Cup
At the moment, this championship is the closest. Its start will be on January 9 and will end on February 6. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, Edouard Mendy, Riyad Mahrez, Thomas Partey and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be some of the figures of the world elite who will be participating.
Women's America's Cup
Colombia will host the women's Copa América for the first time. After the Colombian teams had played three Copa Libertadores finals, Conmebol gave the Andean country the venue for this event. It will last from July 8 to 30.
World Games
As is customary, these jousts take place one year after the Olympic Games and this time is no exception. From July 7 to 17, Alabama (United States) will host these games. This contest – which in 2013 was a resounding success in Cali (Colombia) – welcomes sports that are not yet part of the Olympic agenda.
Women's Basketball World Cup
Australia will be the country in charge of hosting the highest basketball competition in the world. This FIBA-endorsed contest will be held from September 23 to October 1 and will feature 12 quintets that have yet to be defined.
Bolivarian Games
Valledupar, Colombia, will have the opportunity to hold the 19th edition of this event in which 11 countries will participate, the usual 6 (Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Panama, Peru and Venezuela) and 5 more guests from South and Central America.

World Athletics Championship
Although they are normally held every two years, athletics fans had to wait three years without the world championships in this discipline taking place. The athletes will meet in Eugene (United States) for the jousts that will take place between July 15 and 24.
Women's Eurocup
16 women's teams will be playing for the most precious UEFA title. England will host this competition that will be played from July 6 to July 31. The Netherlands comes from being champion after beating Denmark in the final of 2017 and incidentally interrupted the 6 consecutive years of Germany winning this tournament.
