2023 Golden Globes: Where to See the Most Nominated Films and Series

On January 10, 2023, we will have an appointment with the event that will raise the curtain on the film and television awards season: the Golden Globes. As usual, the gala will take place in the city of Los Angeles, and it is expected that those who emerge victorious will end up being the top favorites to opt for an Oscar award.

For this occasion, the novelty will be the return of its live broadcast on the NBC channel and via streaming on Peacock, after the previous edition was "cancelled" due to certain controversies with the nominations. This time, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association worked to avoid repeating its mistakes and promoted diversity in its elections, waiting for everything to return to normal and enjoy a wonderful ceremony.

As expected, the quality of the nominees is optimal, and the decisions will most likely be close. Likewise, it is important to highlight the Latin American presence among the possible winners: Ana de Armas (Best Drama Actress), Diego Calva (Best Musical Actor – Comedy), Anya Taylor-Joy (Best Musical Actress – Comedy), Guillermo del Toro ( Best Movie animated), Diego Luna (best actor in a drama series), and Jenna Ortega (best actress in a musical series – comedy).

Movies that Will Leave Their Mark

The production that leads the line of films in the Golden Globes belongs to "The Banshees of Inisherin", directed by Martin McDonagh . With eight nominations in total, this dark tragicomedy tells the story of two childhood friends who are hit with an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship. Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon are also nominated for their respective roles. Available via streaming on Hulu and with the possibility of reaching HBO Max.

Secondly, one of the great sensations that 2022 left us appears: " Everything Everywhere All at Once" . The fictional plot deals with the life of Evelyn Wang, a woman who discovers that parallel universes exist and that she must help prevent their possible total destruction. With six nominations to its credit, the film by directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert is available on platforms like Apple TV and Prime Video, depending on geographic availability.

Meanwhile, with five nominations each, are "Babylon" and "The Fabelmans." The first is a dramatic comedy from director Damien Chazelle, whose cast includes figures like Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Tobey Maguire. Here we will follow the life of a young Mexican-American actor in Hollywood in the twenties. Its streaming premiere would be arriving in January through Paramount +.

In turn, Steven Spielberg directs and co-produces a dramatic film that could serve as a semi-autobiography of his beginnings in the cinema. In fact, the plot is based on a true story told through a fictional character, who discovers how the power of cinema can help him forge his own identity. Until now, it is only available via streaming for the United States on Peacock, while for Latin America it could reach HBO Max.

Finally, other attractive titles that we cannot fail to mention are "Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio" (Netflix), "TÁR" (Peacock) and "Elvis" (HBO Max) with three nominations; "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" (Disney+), "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" (Netflix) and "Top Gun: Maverick" (Paramount+ and Star+) with two nominations.

Control Over Streaming and Series

The dispute regarding the series is closer, but one title stands out above the rest: "Abbott Elementary." The ABC production (also available on Hulu ) received up to five nominations, which follows a group of public school teachers whose mission is to help their students succeed in life. Without a doubt, one of the favorites to take everything in the category of musical—comedy.

Five series are tied with four nominations, two of which can be enjoyed on Netflix: "The Crown" and "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story." Both titles are among the most viewed on the streaming platform, in addition to breaking some audience records. It is worth mentioning that while the first will compete for the award in the drama category, the second will try it in the miniseries.

Likewise, Hulu is also in the running with two series that have given a lot to talk about: "Pam & Tommy" and "Only Murders in the Building." The first is a miniseries that is based on the relationship between actress Pamela Anderson and drummer Tommy Lee, while the second is a comedy that follows three unknown true-crime fans who are involved in a murder inside their building. 

To close the batch of four nominations, HBO Max continues to rely on the success of "The White Lotus" and is presented as the only miniseries in its category that has two seasons. The positive reviews led the satire created by Mike White to become an anthology series, which chronicles the vacations of various guests in an idyllic hotel who must face certain complexities.

Finally, special mention to series that generated high expectations throughout 2022. On the part of Netflix are "Ozark", with three nominations, and "Better Call Saul" and "Wednesday" with two; HBO Max stands out with “Hacks”, three nominations, as well as "Barry" and "The House of the Dragon" with two others; while Apple TV does the same with "Severance" and "Black Bird" with three nominations each.
