There are a couple of days left for the premiere of “Oppenheimer”, the new Nolan film that tells the story of the scientist and his participation in the Manhattan Project. To make the wait shorter, here is the ranking of the 11 films of the acclaimed director, from the worst to the best of his works.

11) “Tenet”

It was nominated for several awards for 2020 and an Oscar winner for best visual effects. A story in which a CIA agent is in charge of stopping the end of the world. Tenet is in the last place on the list because apparently it is a film that feeds on the cliché of the secret agent, very much in the James Bond style. This is not to say that he neglects the reflective touch that Nolan gives to his films.

IMDB: 7.3/10.

Rotten Tomatoes: 69%.

10) “The Dark Knight: The Legend Reborn”

This 2012 film takes place 8 years after Batman takes the blame for the death of Harvey Dent and disappears from Gotham. Some flaws in the script that force the story of Talia and Bane’s death a bit, in addition to the comparison made with the rest of the trilogy, put this film in tenth position.

IMDB: 8.4/10.

Rotten Tomatoes: 87%.

9) “Following”

Nolan’s first film tells the story of a writer who lacks inspiration. One day he decides to follow people to learn how their lives unfold. A film that captivates in the first few minutes, but that can make it difficult to keep up with the development of the story. It cannot be denied that it has a good plot and is accomplished very well on a low budget.

IMDB: 7.5/10.

Rotten Tomatoes: 93%.

8) “Interstellar”

With several Oscar and Golden Globe nominations, it premiered in 2014. It takes place in a dystopian future in which the end of the Earth is near. A team of astronauts embarks on a journey beyond this galaxy in search of a habitable planet. It has a complex script and very rich in content, an impressive soundtrack and scenes that remain in the mind of whoever has seen it.

IMDB: 8.7 /10.

Rotten Tomatoes: 73%.

7) “The Prestige”

Two Oscar nominations in 2006, with Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale as lead actors. Two wizards become obsessed with surpassing each other’s abilities. Some parts of the story are predictable, but it manages to keep the viewer following the plot. With impeccable performances that show human duality very well.

IMDB: 8.5/10.

Rotten Tomatoes: 76%.

6) “Insomnia”

It premiered in 2002 with the participation of actors like Al Pacino and Robin Williams. Two Los Angeles detectives investigate the murder of a 17-year-old girl. This movie takes a crazy ride, but it strays a bit from Nolan’s style. It does not have scenes that stand out from the others, nor a shocking or surprising ending, but even so it maintains the viewer’s interest.

IMDB: 7.2/10.

Rotten Tomatoes: 92%.

5) “Dunkirk”

2017 film, set in World War II, chronicles a critical moment for British and French soldiers. It is the story of how humans can face distressing situations and fight to survive. In this film, the soundtrack blends perfectly with the story, as well as the photography by Hoyte van Hoytema. It has an unconventional narrative that manages to catch the viewer. Fair dialogues are used to allow the plot to advance.

IMDB: 7.8/10.

Rotten Tomatoes: 92%.

4) “Inception”

A film starring Leonardo DiCaprio in which he plays an expert in the subconscious and the secrets that can be discovered while someone sleeps. This leads him to be part of a dangerous world, full of spies and information theft. Each of the actors gives a great boost to this film, the special effects to show scenes that take the viewer into the dreams of the characters, play a fundamental role. The script and especially the end of “Origin” keep the public thinking about what they just saw.

IMDB: 8.8 /10.

Rotten Tomatoes: 87%.

3) “Batman Begins”

It is the first installment in Nolan’s Dark Knight of Gotham City trilogy. This film tells how Batman becomes the defender of the city, a tour of the world that changes the course of Bruce Wayne’s life. A film that delves into Batman’s mind, showing his facet as a hero, but also the construction of his monstrous part. A well-made story that breaks with the usual in superhero movies.

IMDB: 8.2 /10.

Rotten Tomatoes: 84%.

2) “Memento”

One of the films that has become a cult production came to the screen in the year 2000, with an Oscar nomination for best screenplay. It tells the story of Leonard, a man who has problems with his short-term memory. He must find a way to record the events to find his wife’s murderer. It is a complex story that makes the character feel the experience, the impotence and the lack of clarity of what is happening. A very well made film with a low budget.

IMDB: 8.4 /10.

Rotten Tomatoes: 93%.

1) “Batman: The Dark Knight”

Batman, led by police lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, seeks to confront crime in Gotham. The Joker makes a presence collapsing everything that had been proposed at the beginning. One of the best superhero movies and one of the best comic book adaptations to hit the big screen.

IMDB: 9.0 /10.

Rotten Tomatoes: 94%.

Nolan’s films are priceless , from Tenet to the Dark Knight, they are stories to reflect on and enjoy a whole cinematic experience. With the upcoming premiere of “Oppenheimer” the ideal moment for a marathon is created.
