New color code for recycling in Colombia

As of January 1, 2021, Colombians must separate their waste by color in white, black and green containers . The Ministry of Environment made this decision in order to facilitate the work of collection service providers to make it more functional. By unifying it throughout the national territory, it will allow it to be done continuously.

The separation will be done as follows:

White: clean and dry usable waste, such as plastic, glass, metals, paper and cardboard.

Black: unusable waste such as toilet paper; napkins, papers, and cardboard contaminated with food; metallic papers, among others. In this bag or container, the COVID-19 waste such as face masks, gloves, among others, should also be disposed .

Green: usable organic waste such as food waste, lawn mowing and garden pruning waste, etc.
