Skills That Women Bring to Companies

Many women are interested in finding better quality jobs. However, not all of them know exactly what companies might ask them for. According to the Global Student Survey 2021, conducted by the British company Pearson, 90% of women will try to improve their skills in 2022.

As a first measure, 19% of the women consulted indicated that they will seek to improve communication. Then, 18% of them mentioned that they will need to have more leadership, while 17% commented that they need to organize their time better. In other words, this is the perspective they have about their skills.

But what do companies think about them? Depending on the position you are applying for, some skills will be more relevant than others. For example, a customer service position is not the same as a programming position, as the former involves more social skills than the latter.

However, as a general rule here are some of the skills you should improve if you want to get a better job. 

Emotional Intelligence

According to research from Korn Ferry's Hay Group division, the most distinctive trait of women in the workplace is emotional intelligence. More specifically, women can have up to 86% more emotional self-awareness, something that can be very useful in different job roles.

Thus, women with this skill can be better at leadership. A clear example is former Pepsi CEO Indra Nooyi, who took it upon herself to send thank-you notes to her executives' parents. This generated happiness among employees and Nooyi achieved a 75% approval rating. PepsiCo has even increased sales by up to 80% in the last 12 years. 

You may not make it to such an important position, but many companies could use that empathy for others to improve the work environment. 

Responsibility

According to a study conducted by the consulting firm Actual Recursos Humanos, women are more responsible at work, while men have better theoretical perspectives. This situation means that they may be able to organize their time better. For example, they understand which tasks are essential and which are secondary.

This skill is very useful for employers, especially if you need to command a team. As a leader of a department, you should certainly be able to understand the corporate objectives. Thus, you can help the company to achieve more and more ambitious goals, always in a responsible way. 

If it is a minor position, the responsibility will also help. This trait could increase your chances of receiving a promotion since you could distinguish yourself from others.

Adaptability

We are in an ever-changing world. Constantly, new problems or opportunities arise that people need to deal with in a good way. Therefore, women may be able to acclimate to these new situations, without having to suffer a crisis or have trouble getting new challenges. 

This soft skill has become one of the most demanded by all employers, especially if you work in an area that has to do with technology. As technology is constantly evolving, you must be able to acquire new knowledge without fear. If you do it well, you will stand out from the crowd. 

For this, training will be relevant. Try to get out of your comfort zone and try to improve yourself every day. 

Communication

Finally, women who want to improve their communication skills are right. This feature is one of the most important skills for the working world, as they can occupy many positions related to this area. For example, according to the Association of Public Relations and Communication Consulting Firms, 72% of employees in the communication sector are women.

More than 50% of women working in this sector have a managerial role, something that does not happen in other industries. This situation means that if you work in the area of communication, both written and oral, you are likely to have a good chance of finding a job, as employers require these skills.
