Chucky is one of the symbols of pop culture of the 80s and 90s, his franchise is one of the most successful with stories that have become cult classics and that continue to this day. On October 12 a new installment of "The Diabolical Doll" will be released, but now in a television format. We bring you the details of his return, who is back, and the relationship of this new series with the entire franchise created by Don Mancini.
Chucky
Television is one of the few places that Chucky has not reached, since the character has been present in comics, video games and movies. The franchise has grown over 33 years since the premiere of Child's Play in 1988, and the character has branched out from horror and slash to comedy. Now, we will have the "killer doll" on the small screen thanks to Universal Content Productions, which will transmit his newest show on Syfy and USA Network channels next October.
The series produced by Don Mancini, one of the pillars of the franchise, takes us to a quiet American town where the young Jake Webber (Zackary Arthur) acquires the doll. "The main character is a 14-year-old gay boy who is bullied and lost after the recent death of his mother," Mancini said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Chucky will now explore the world of teenagers, just as he did in the third installment of Child's Play, where he tormented Andy Barclay in a militarized academy. In this new context and true to form, Chucky will commit bloody crimes.
Old acquaintances
One of the objectives of this new series is to explore a more "classic" Chucky, closer to that of the Child's Play trilogy, that is, in a less comical tone than that of the other four films ( Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky, Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky ), although without leaving aside the black humor of the character, a challenge. Chucky will feature old acquaintances from across the franchise: Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany Valentine, Alex Vincent as Andy Barclay (from the first two Child's Play movies), Christine Elise McCarthy as Kyle (the foster sister Andy escapes to end of the film), Brad Dourif (the original voice of Chucky) and his daughter, Fiona Dourif, as Nica Pierce (the paraplegic woman the doll attacks in Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky).

These characters will return as allies or enemies of Chucky, which will give continuity to the entire franchise and will surely satisfy the millions of followers of the doll. Mancini has sought to connect in some way all the evolution and diversity that exists in the entire series of films to give them coherence in this new series. Another element that stands out is the use of animatronics. In the original trilogy, the doll that we see is a combination of disguised people and animatronics, which is why Chucky's old design and the use of these mechanisms have been used in this new series. As a curious fact, the skeleton of the puppet used in several films of the franchise appears in the Technologic video of Daft Punk.
Among the new characters, in addition to Zackary Arthur, will be Teo Briones ( Pretty Little Liars ), Björgvin Arnarson (The Seventh Day) and Alyvia Alyn Lind ( Walk. Ride. Rodeo. ) As a quartet of teenagers, complying with the stereotypes of American schools. In addition, they are accompanied by Devon Sawa ( Final Destination ) in a new role.
Marathon the movies before the series
You have enough time to see the 7 films of the original franchise again, as Mancini has said that one of his objectives is for the series to be a continuation of these, in addition to being a prequel to an eighth film. In short, Mancini seeks to create a coherent universe within everything that exists, so it is important to see all the films so as not to miss details or references. Especially the last film, Cult of Chucky, where characters like Andy Barclay and his adoptive sister Kyle reappear, in addition, Mancini has left many loose ends that will need to be resolved in the new series, they are so many that it would be difficult to explain them all.
What is important to note is that Child's Play of 2019 is not considered within Mancini's plans, so you can rule it out. The 2019 film is a reboot of the franchise so it has no relation to Mancini's "universe." There is even the possibility that the 2019 film will have a sequel, although it will be difficult if Mancini manages to make an eighth film of his franchise a reality, it all depends on the success of the series.
