Puerto Rico’s J-King and Maximan Reimagine Their Hits wiith Nostalgic Acoustic

Puerto Rican reggaeton duo J-King and Maximan release their new album ‘Lágrimas del Cora’, reinterpreting five of their iconic tracks in acoustic style, offering a unique and emotional musical experience.

Puerto Rican reggaeton duo J-King and Maximan have launched their latest musical production titled ‘Lágrimas del Cora’, an album that features five of their most well-known tracks reinterpreted in an ‘unplugged’ or acoustic style. Announced this Wednesday in a press release, this launch marks a significant milestone in the artists’ careers as they seek to provide their fans with a unique and emotional musical experience.

“We are grateful for the support we’ve always received. With much love, sweat, and dedication, we share this ‘unplugged’ production with all the lovers of our music, an album that we recorded live with an instrumental band,” expressed the duo comprised of J-King (Jaime Alberto Borges) and Maximan (Héctor L. Padilla).

The five tracks featured on the album by ‘Los reyes del perreo’ (The Kings of Perreo) are ‘Dedícame un minuto’, ‘Estrellita’, ‘Sr. Juez’, ‘Me gustas tú’, and ‘La conversación’.

A Fusion of Latin Rhythms

The album seamlessly blends Latin rhythms such as reggae, ska, reggaeton, cumbia, and urban merengue. The vocal performances of J-King and Maximan stand out against the live instrumentation, which enhances each composition with harmonious notes from bass, acoustic and electric guitars, live drums, and Latin percussion, evoking a relaxed vibe while still inviting listeners to dance, as highlighted in the press release.

Puerto Rican musician Jesús Alvarado, a Latin Grammy winner, co-produced the album.

A Legacy of Success

J-King and Maximan have a solid career backed by numerous accolades, including six ASCAP awards, a Premio Lo Nuestro in 2011 in the categories of ‘Urban Music Revelation of the Year’ and ‘Duo of the Year’, and in 2013 for ‘Best Album of the Year’ for ‘Los Sucesores’.

The decision to create an acoustic album was driven by a desire to revisit their musical roots and offer something different to their audience. By stripping down their tracks to their core elements, the duo aims to highlight the emotional depth and lyrical richness of their music.

“We wanted to give our fans a new way to experience our songs, something that feels intimate and raw,” said Maximan. “The acoustic setting allows us to connect with our listeners on a deeper level.”

Recording the album was a labor of love for J-King and Maximan. They spent countless hours in the studio, working with live musicians to perfect each track. The result is a collection of songs that retain the energy and spirit of their original versions but with a new, stripped-down sound that emphasizes their musical versatility.

The album kicks off with ‘Dedícame un minuto’, a heartfelt ballad that showcases the duo’s vocal prowess. The acoustic arrangement brings a new dimension to the song, allowing the lyrics to take center stage. ‘Estrellita’, a fan favorite, follows with a reggae-infused rhythm that is both soothing and invigorating. The live instrumentation adds a layer of richness to the track, making it a standout on the album.

‘Sr. Juez’, a song with a powerful message, is given new life with its acoustic rendition. The stripped-back arrangement highlights the song’s poignant lyrics and the duo’s emotive delivery. ‘Me gustas tú’ brings a playful vibe to the album, with its upbeat cumbia rhythm and catchy chorus. The live band adds a dynamic energy to the track, making it impossible not to dance along.

The album closes with ‘La conversación’, a reflective song that explores themes of love and loss. The acoustic arrangement lends a melancholic tone to the track, allowing the duo’s heartfelt vocals to shine.

J-King and Maximan hope that ‘Lágrimas del Cora’ will resonate with their fans and introduce their music to a new audience. “This album is a celebration of our journey and our growth as artists,” said J-King. “We are excited to share it with the world and we hope it touches the hearts of everyone who listens.”
