Regional Mexican Music Reigns In The Nominations For The Latin Billboard Awards

The singer-songwriter of regional Mexican music Peso Pluma leads, with 21 nominations, the official list of finalists for the 2023 Billboard Latin Music Awards, followed by Bad Bunny, Grupo Frontera, Karol G, Shakira and Fuerza Regida, the organizers announced this Thursday.
The list includes the names of 71 artists divided into fifty categories, two of them newly created: Global 200 Latin Artist of the Year and Global 200 Latin Song of the Year.
The 2023 Billboard Latin Music Awards will be delivered on October 5 at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables (Miami-Dade) during a gala broadcast live on Telemundo.
The show, produced by Telemundo and MBS Special Events, will be broadcast simultaneously on the Hispanic entertainment cable channel Universo, the Peacock streaming service, the Telemundo app and in Latin America and the Caribbean by Telemundo Internacional.
Regional Mexican music reigns supreme in this edition of the awards, with Peso Pluma, which, contrary to its name, shows how with its 21 nominations it has a solid position in Latin music.
He is a finalist for the Artist of the Year, Composer of the Year, Global 200 Latin Artist of the Year, and Top Latin Album of the Year awards for "Génesis," plus other nominations for his collaborations on "Ella baila sola," with Eslabón Armado, and "La baby" with Yng Lvcas.
They are followed by the Puerto Rican global icon Bad Bunny and the Texas band Grupo Frontera, who each have 15 nominations, and the Colombians Karol G and Shakira, with 13 and 12 nominations, respectively. The Mexican regional group from California Fuerza Regida also stands out with 12 mentions.
For his part, Bad Bunny, one of the most listened to artists worldwide, has 15 mentions, including Artist of the Year, Tour of the Year, Global 200 Latin Artist of the Year and Global 200 Latin Song of the Year for "Tití me preguntó" .
He also has four other mentions for the song "Un X100to", his collaboration with Grupo Frontera, including "Hot Latin Song" Song of the Year and Song of the Year, Streaming.
In turn, the Mexican-American band Grupo Frontera is competing for 15 awards, including Artist of the Year, Global 200 Latin Artist of the Year and five of its mentions are for the song "Bebé dame" together with Fuerza Regida, including that of Hot Latin Song Song of the Year and Song of the Year Sales. His song "Un X100to" with Bad Bunny achieved four mentions, including Regional Mexican Song of the Year.
Among the female artists, Karol G says present with 13 mentions. This year marks the second consecutive year that the "bichota" becomes the female artist with the highest number of mentions in the history of the award, achieving 15 in 2022 and 13 this year. Karol G is up for Artist of the Year, Tour of the Year and "Top Latin Album" of the Year for Mañana será bonito. Her collaboration with Shakira on the song "TQG" has five mentions, including "Hot Latin Song" Song of the Year and Song of the Year, Latin Airplay.
In turn, Shakira has 12 mentions. In addition to the five for the song "TQG", she is a finalist for "Hot Latin Songs" Artist of the Year, Female and "Latin Pop" Artist of the Year, Solo. It is also up for Song of the Year, Latin Air Play for "Monotonía" and Latin Pop Song of the Year for "BZRP music sessions, vol 53," alongside Bizarrap, which is also up for Song of the Year, Sales.
Fuerza Regida also has 12 mentions, which in addition to the five for "Bebe dame" together with Grupo Frontera, include Artist of the Year, "Hot Latin Songs" Artist of the Year Duo or Group and "Top Latin Albums" Artist of the Year, Duo or Cluster.
Other artists with multiple mentions are Eslabón Armado (10), Rauw Alejandro (7), Rosalía, Bizarrap, Feid and Yng Lvcas (6), Iván Cornejo, Manuel Turizo and Natanael Cano (4), Becky G, Ozuna, Romeo Santos ( 3), Aventura, Carin León, Daddy Yankee, Edgar "Edge" Barrera, Grupo Marca Registrada, Junior H, MAG, Maná, Marshmello, Piso 21, Quevedo, Sebastián Yatra and Yandel (2).
Finalists, as well as winners, are chosen based on key fan interactions with music, including audio and video streaming, album and song sales, radio airplay and touring, tracked by Billboard and its data partner, Luminate.
During the gala, a select group of artists will be distinguished with special awards such as the Billboard Spirit of Hope and the Artistic Trajectory Award, and many of the most relevant artists in Latin music today will perform.
