Although moving on isn't easy, it can be the greatest act of self-love to heal our wounds. Many people wonder why certain events in their lives keep repeating themselves in different faces, contexts, or circumstances. Why do they feel that they have not been able to move from a place even though time has passed and they have continued to live “normally.”

On certain occasions, the cycle was closed superficial, and the healing process did not take place. Here are some essential steps (which are not linear, nor must they necessarily be followed in order) to get to the root of the event and are vital points to heal.

Share Your Story

Sharing your story will allow you to understand better how you felt and how much you have grown since then. It's not easy recalling painful memories. Nevertheless, this step is crucial to heal and put into words all those feelings that can become a mess if they are not acknowledged.

Understand Your Past

When you understand the person you were and that back then you didn't have all the experience and knowledge you have now, it will be easier for you to be kinder with yourself and the situation. Understanding is not easy, but it's an effort that it's worth it.

Release What Happened

After sharing your story and understanding your past, it's important to let those things that hurt you go. You can do it little by little. A good exercise for this is reacting more healthily when thinking about that memory that caused you so much pain. Once you're able to understand the situation and that it wasn't wholly your fault, you'll be able to be free.

Forgive Yourself (and Them)

The forgiveness process can be the most challenging step of this list. This is because being kind to ourselves it's not always as easy as it seems. Here is also important to forgive those who hurt you and accept that they don't have the power to make your life miserable. Find peace within yourself and let go of all feelings of resentment and anger. You are the most damaged by those negative feelings.

Cultivate Positive Habits

Part of the healing process is being able to start a healthier life in which you can put your health, mind, body, and soul as a priority. By cultivating positive habits, you'll develop the strength to overcome any future challenge.

Rebuild Yourself

Finally, you'll realize that you won't be the same resentful and sad person of the past. As you accept that you can't control everything around you, but you can control the way react to circumstances, you'll feel more in peace and control.

Ideally, this process should be carried out by a professional. This way, the results can be perceived and that these are, above all, long-lasting. Remember: To be able to notice changes, the necessary measures must be taken responsibly, and this is only possible by going to professionals in the area of mental health.
