The Coppa Italia: The resurrection of the Juve-Milan classic
The old soccer rivalry will re-emerge in all its splendor when the two teams fight for the title in May
Soccer in Italy has been dominated for several years by the unbeatable Juventus of Turin, a club that has taken advantage of the sporting and institutional crises of great teams like Inter and Milan. However, the red-and-white club of Milan has found a way to fight again like in the old days.
These circumstances have facilitated that two of the greatest teams of the 'Calcio' meet again in definitive instances of a championship. On this occasion, the Italian Cup will be the scene in which one of the most important classics of soccer is revived: Juventus Vs. Milan.
Juventus, to defend its throne
The most successful team in the history of all the local Italian competitions, Juventus of Turin, qualified for the final of the Italian Cup 2017-18 after eliminating teams such as Genoa, Torino, and Atalanta. 'La Vecchia Signora' continues with firm steps in its goal of continuing to dominate Italian soccer in its entirety.
The 'Juve' has been at the top of ‘Calcio’ for more than 7 years. The squad comes to this final as the three-time champion of the tournament and it hopes to lift its 13th Italian Cup title against one of its greatest historical rivals: AC Milan.
This final will be a rematch for the black and white, because although Juventus won the last final of the Cup between the two teams in May 2016, the final of the Italian Super Cup in December of the same year Milan won in the round of penalties. The unstoppable Juventus suffered a great affront and in this final of the Italian Cup will have the opportunity to avenge that defeat.
Milan, evoking old times
The rossoneri club reached the final of the Italian Cup after eliminating Hellas Verona, Inter Milan, and Lazio. The team achieved a rising performance curve, since club legend, Gennaro Gatusso, assumed the position of technical director. Milan has resurfaced from its ashes and having eliminated Inter from Milan, its greatest historical rival, gave it a frantic impulse to reach the final of the cup.
Milan has been stagnant athletically for more than 7 years, but this season it has found a way to commemorate its high status and compete at the top of the Italian Cup. The last final of Milan, in the cup, was in May 2016 when it faced the same opponent as in the final of this edition, Juventus of Turin. This last one won the title on that occasion. Milan will look to evoke old times to gain back its usual hierarchy and thus be able to keep a title that would confirm the resurgence of the club.
A classic, which had been slowly extinguished in recent years, sees in this Italian Cup the opportunity to relive that great rivalry. The meeting will take place in May and you can see the resurrection of one of the most acclaimed classics in world football.
