Adrianna Sulek, the Polish athlete who dared to impose her own style
Adrianna Sulek is a Polish athlete who competes in combined events. During the 2022 World Indoor Championship in Belgrade Sulek obtained silver.

Sulek was born on the 3rd of April 1999 in Bydgoszcz, and as an athlete, she competes globally for Poland. Some of her most recent victories include the Women’s heptathlon in the Wieslaw Czapiewski Memorial 2022 and the women's pentathlon in the Indoor Combined Events 2022. In 2022, during her victory at the World Indoor Championship, she beat Urszula Włodarczyk's 24-year-old Polish record with her score of 4851 points. She competes in 100m and 60 m hurdles, heptathlon, high jump, and pentathlon.
After starting in the lower divisions of the club Zawisza Bydgoszcz, Sulek took her first steps as a professional athlete in 2016. Her career has mostly been centered on competing in pentathlon and heptathlon. During her international debut at the European Junior Athletics Championship in Tbilisi (Georgia) she ran 14th in the heptathlon with a total of 5282 points. Only one year after this achievement, Sulek a 7th place at the European Under-20 Athletics Championship that took place in Grosseto Italy. Another year went by, and Adrianna was awarded a bronze medal at the World Under-20 Athletics Championship in Finland with a sum of 5393 points.
In the year 2019, she went to the European Under-23 Athletics Championship in Sweden, where she came 6th in the heptathlon. Just two years later, in 2021, Adrianna participated in three athletic championships, including her first Olympic games. At the Tokyo Olympic Games which were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, she obtained 16th place, after being awarded 6164 points.
Her name became more popular during the Women’s Javelin in the heptathlon competition at the Athletics World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, since her fans saw her using an innovative technique. Adrianna twirled her arm and jumped up and down as she got ready to throw. Her arm was seen still twirling as she began her run-up before releasing the javelin. The video of her interesting moves shortly became viral on social media. Twitter-user “RobMeech mentioned: “perhaps she conducts an orchestra in her spare time?”. The Radio 1 presenter Greg James twitted: “OK javelin is now my favorite sport.” Others joked at her move, comparing it to a character of Pirates of the Caribbean. Twitter user @Noontangclan wrote: “Jack Sparrow’s daughter aiming for the Olympics”. She was even compared to Juventus Star Paul Pogba taking his first penalty for Juve.
It is worth mentioning that Sulek obtained 4th place in the heptathlon with a total of 6672 points (national record), which would have been sufficient for a medal at any of the past 17 editions of the World Championships. Adrianna has not only set a new polish record but she will also be known for a long time due to her original moves and unique style at the Athletics World Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
