It is very important to avoid confusing the terms intersex status with sexual orientation or preference. Intersexuality refers to the physical condition of people who, from birth, have sexual characteristics different from those established as standards of male and female corporality, that is, genital forms, the conformation of the gonads (sperm and ovules), patterns in their chromosomes and alteration of your hormone levels. The study figures show that there is between 0.05% and 1.7% of the population can be born with this condition.

For this reason, environments of discrimination, rejection, or even associated health problems arise, reverberating in treatments of medical specialties such as endocrinologists and others to modify their physical condition, which undoubtedly affects their social, emotional, and psychological condition. generating complicated, painful situations, and some without consent, causing irreversible damage in many cases.

This is how the International Organization of Intersexuals (OII), proposed to determine November 8 as The Day of Intersexual Solidarity, in commemoration of Herculine Barbin, a hermaphrodite person who lived between the years 1838 to 1868 and who, due to social pressure and psychological, he decided to commit suicide at the age of 30, to have more information and knowledge of this situation and understand what these people go through, who are somehow always prosecuted and relegated.

Let us remember that Dr. John Money, between 1940 and 1950, instituted the word "gender" to reduce the definition of the bodily state to two sexes: male and female, incidentally as a tool to face what is commonly called "the problem of intersexuality". ”.

In the 21st century, in which all kinds of situations have been exposed that are not the result of surgeries in an attempt to determine single sex in these intersex people and that in some cases result in suicide, this topic opens our eyes to the possibilities to understand and accept these cases and try to handle them in the best way as individuals and as a society, adopting the idea of gender as binary, that is, the indisputable existence of opposite and complementary genders, and as a consequence, constant discussions about gender equality would also be avoided. homo and heterosexuality, leading a percentage of the world population to question, reject, and discriminate, aspects that affect our societies so much every day, leading to set aside values such as tolerance and acceptance not only in our cultural, family, and social environment but unquestionably in the workplace to provide greater opportunities.
