The film industry tends to feed on literature. What's more: it is usually one of the best inspirations for excellent films. For example, the best movie ever according to the specialized IMDb site, The Shawshank Redemption, is a story based on the short novel by Stephen King.
In 2020, we had seen great adaptations that came from the literature. For example, the remake of Emma by Jane Austen and a biopic by Shirley Jackson. However, reading fans will realize that 2021 will be a special year for big screen or streaming premieres of great books. Let's see the best.
French Exit
We begin by talking about this 2018 novel by Patrick DeWitt, which will seek to reach the big screen through director Azazel Jacobs, to have that critical and mocking tone, as well as a black humor that made it a best-seller. According to El Intransigente, this new film will mark the return of actress Michelle Pfeiffer to Hollywood.
She will play Frances Price, a widow who, after going bankrupt, decides to move to New York to end her life in Paris. This role could even get her in the running for the Oscars. The truth is that the film closed 2020 at the New York Film Festival, being a pleasant surprise due to its disruptive tone, although it will be released in 2021.
To All The Boys: Always and Forever
In this case, a production that will arrive directly on Netflix. We are talking about a trilogy that started with All the Boys I've Loved Before, which immediately became a real success. For example, Espinof mentioned that it is a romantic film that became really special.
This third film, which will close the trilogy, will return us to the protagonist making different decisions that will transform her life while trying to get to the University. Based on the novels of Jeni Han, the truth is that it was one of the best surprises of Netflix when adapting books to the screen through streaming.

Pinocchio
Perhaps one of the most interesting announcements that 2021 will bring us. The character of Pinocchio had different animated adaptations, but this stop-motion film could have a surprisingly dark tone. Directed by Mexican Guillermo del Toro, it will be a dark musical "not suitable for the whole family" that will be available on Netflix.
Based on the books by Carlo Collodi, the film will be set in the rise of Mussolini's fascism in Italy in the 1930s. In addition, it will have a luxurious cast. Among them, Ewan McGregor as Jiminy Cricket, David Bradley as Geppetto, Cristoph Waltz, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett or Finn Wolfhard.
Death on the Nile
The novel released in 1937 by Agatha Cristie will also have its film adaptation, which was initially thought for 2020, but later delayed to this year. Directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh, it is a direct sequel to Murder on the Orient Express, which had been released in 2017, according to the books.
The plot will follow Poirot, a renowned detective, who appears involved in a love triangle that occurs after a murder while deciding to travel through Egypt. In addition, some renowned actors and actresses will appear, such as Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey or Ali Fazal, among others.
Dune
Finally, perhaps one of the most anticipated of the whole year. Inspired by Frank Herbert's 1965 novel, we must bear in mind that there is already a tape with the same name, released in 1984 and directed by David Lynch. However, this project, in charge of Denis Villeneuve, will have nothing to do with the previous story.
Then, the film will present us with a scenario in which, in the distant future of humanity, a duke agrees to administer a desert planet known as Arrakis, which is the only source of a valuable substance in the universe: "the spice." With Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa and Oscar Isaac, it will also have a luxurious cast.
All of these movies, which are straightforward adaptations of literature, will arrive sometime in 2021. Movie and book fans will be in love to see how they are inspired by these stories!
