Sebastian Vettel Announced His Retirement From Formula One

Four-time Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement today. "The decision to retire has been a difficult one to make and I have spent a lot of time thinking about this, at the end of the year I want to take some more time to reflect on what I am going to do next, I am very clear that as a father I want to spend more time with my family," the pilot said in a press release.

The 35-year-old German driver is one of the most prolific drivers the sport has seen. He is third in the list of most races won, with 53 victories and also in podiums, with 122. He is also fourth in number of pole-positions with 57.

Of Vettel we will remember in particular his incredible winning streak with Red Bull, which lasted from 2010 to 2013. During this, he became the youngest champion the sport has ever seen.

He finished his career with the Aston Martin team, with which he lasted just one year. “Sebastian is an excellent driver, fast, intelligent and strategic, and of course we are going to miss those qualities. However, we have all learned from him, and the knowledge we have gained from working with him will continue to benefit our team long after he is gone,” said Mike Krack, his team manager. 

In addition to being a great competitor, Vettel is also recognized for his activism and his support for various social causes. For example, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he was one of the drivers who proposed boycotting the Russian Grand Prix, which was to take place in September. He has also proposed that Formula One should hold the geographically close Grand Prix back-to-back, in order to reduce carbon emissions.
