Women in Engineering, Their Obstacles, and Challenges by 2030

A recent article called "STEM women, engineers and scientists in the Faculty of Engineering" published on the official website of the National University of Colombia revealed that only 30% of women choose professional careers linked to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). In Colombia, the total number of graduates in the engineering sector is close to 26% who obtain an engineering degree. In addition, of 13,000 researchers, only 38% are women, that is, a minimum of 4,940 women.
The National University of Colombia, in its commitment to gender equality, guarantees the access and inclusion of STEM women, as is the case of Dean María Alejandra Guzmán, Mechanical Engineer. The leader announced her experience in a talk called "Women as a fundamental axis for humanistic development in STEM," which sensitized and recognized STEM women in the Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Colombia and who promote engineering as sustainable development.
Gaps and Challenges Facing 2030 To Achieve Gender Equality in STEM Careers
A study called "Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in Latin America and the Caribbean" conducted by Alessandro Bello and published by UN Women revealed some critical challenges in significantly reducing gender gaps in Colombia.
a) Implement specific national gender equality policies in Colombia to attract girls and women to this vital sector.
b) Design and create programs and initiatives that allow the promotion of women in science.
c) Create awareness-raising policies in the cultural field and incorporate girls in the field.
d) Create tools and strategies to address gender gaps.
Engineers in Megaprojects Versus Female Talents
Forbes Magazine announced in its article Mujeres Poderosas 2022 Ángela María Orozco Gómez, Minister of Transport, one of the 50 most powerful women of Forbes Colombia. The leader has been the key chess piece of all the Viale Megaprojects reactivated in Colombia. Currently, 5G projects have approximately 70 billion dollars in execution that will revolutionize the country's transport.
1. Pacific Project 3: A large-scale work with a cost of 2.4 billion dollars with 146 kilometers. The project has two tunnels, 40 bridges, 7 kilometers of dual carriageway, 28 kilometers of the single carriageway, and the optimization of 118 road kilometers. In 2022, the fourth generation (4G) connection will be completed. The engineer Ángela María Orozco Gómez mentioned that when she entered the Government, the progress of the work was at 42%, and thanks to her effort and dedication, the work is currently at 92% and will be delivered in July 2022.

2. Chirajara Project – Founders: A work that has an investment of 7.02 billion dollars and has six tunnels, 21 vehicular bridges, seven pedestrian bridges, and 22.6 kilometers of dual carriageway.
Women and girls can become great effective leaders, incorporating their participation in sustainable initiatives worldwide. Companies must aim for a sustainable recovery and boost women's empowerment in their rights activism.
