The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is one of the most successful franchises in the history of cinema. Thanks to its huge and extensive lore, we have seen how great superheroes and villains have appeared throughout its more than 20 films. That is characters with enormous superpowers.
The truth is that, during the last time, more and more women have been incorporated into the main cast. For example, Jane Foster, Natalie Portman's character in "Thor," will appear with superpowers in the fourth film of the Norse hero. The same will happen in "Eternals," the future film in which Angelina Jolie will appear playing the superheroine Thena.
Against this backdrop, we decided to see which are the current women within the MCU.
Captain Marvel
Perhaps one of the most important of recent times. This superheroine is a woman known as Carol Danvers played by Brie Larson. We could see her for the first time in the eponymous film of 2019, where we were introduced to the story of one of the strongest superheroines of the entire MCU.
In 2022 we will have a sequel, known as "The Marvels," where we will not only focus on her character but will also be joined by several women, such as Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau. Therefore, the introduction of Captain Marvel serves to give the whole cast a more feminist range.
Black Widow
Black Widow was one of the most iconic women in the MCU. The truth is that we will soon have her movie, which will function as a prequel within Marvel because let's remember that this character, played by the brilliant Scarlett Johansson, died in the events that occurred in "Avengers: Endgame."
She appeared for the first time in "Iron-Man 2," as an assistant for Tony Stark. However, little by little, her great skills in hand-to-hand fights began to be perceived and she became one of the visible faces of the Avengers. In this year's movie, we will be able to learn about her background and see what her legacy will be within the franchise.
Gamora
Gamora became one of the most beloved characters in the entire MCU. Her first appearance was in "Guardians of the Galaxy," one of the funniest movies of all Marvel. Played by Zoe Saldana, she is completely charismatic and feisty.
She was one of the keys to the Thanos plot, as she was one of the daughters he had to kill to obtain the Soul Gem. We can hardly see her in the future, although it is clear that she played a major role.

Rescue
Another of the characters that have been growing in recent times. Rescue is the name of the empowered version of Pepper Potts, Tony Stark's wife, played by Gwyneth Paltrow.
Since "Iron Man 3" we see that she appears with powers, but also with a suit designed by her own husband. Although she has not played a major role, it is certain that she could join the Avengers in the future.
Scarlet Witch
Scarlet Witch has been one of the characters that have grown in popularity in recent years, but also one of those with the most future. She is the super-powered version of Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, who at first started as a villain, due to her mutations, but then joined the main cast.
In the MCU she had little relevant participation, except for her fight with Thanos in "Avengers: Infinity War" when we could see the enormous power she had hidden. The truth is that since the release of the TV series "WandaVision," where she appears as the main character, we realized that she is one of the most powerful women in the franchise.
She is expected to be one of the keys to the future of the saga, especially when it comes to "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," which will be released in 2022, and where it was confirmed that she will be an important part of the cast.
Wasp
Finally, another one of those who joined the main cast. She appeared in "Ant-Man and the Wasp," the sequel to the character who can be made small. Played by Evangeline Lilly, she also has the powers of her partner.
It is not yet known what role she will play in the MCU, but it is known that she will reprise her role in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," which would be the third installment of the saga of this superhero.
As we can see, more and more women are joining Marvel's extensive and incredible cast.
